Apple Pork Chops

Ingredients


5 mL (1 tsp.) canola oil

2 pork chops, 90 g (3 oz.), fat removed

Add salt and pepper to taste

10 mL (2 tsp.) butter or non-hydrogenated margarine

10 mL (2 tsp.) maple syrup

1 apple, cored and sliced

Sambal Oelek chili paste to taste (optional)

Directions


Heat the oil in a large non-stick frying pan. Sauté the pork for 3–4 minutes on each side. Season. Remove the pork from the pan, cover, and set aside.

In the same pan, melt the butter, then add the maple syrup, apple slices, and, if desired, Sambal Oelek. Cook until the apple slices are soft.

Pour the apple slices into a serving dish and lay the pork chops on top.


Variation: You can replace the pork with chicken. If you don’t have maple syrup, use honey.
