Yoga originated in India more than 5,000 years ago. It was only in the late 19th century that it made its appearance in North America. Yoga has since gained in popularity and is practised by many Quebeckers today.

This activity is a spiritual and physical discipline rooted in an Indian philosophy that aims to free the mind of the body’s constraints through postures and breathing exercises.

Regular yoga practice has undisputed health benefits and improves physical fitness. It is recommended to practise at least twice a week for one hour. Through high-intensity postures that stretch the muscles, yoga:

  • Improves muscle strength and endurance
  • Improves flexibility and range of motion
  • Improves balance and body awareness
  • Improves muscle coordination
  • Can reduce stress, anxiety, and angst by releasing endorphins

Yoga is an excellent physical activity that creates a moment of calm and relaxation through effort. Your first yoga sessions may be physically demanding, but don’t give up. You’ll quickly see an improvement and have fun during your practice!
