In December 2008, I decided to join Énergie Cardio. Considering my age, 72, and my physical fitness at the time, I choose the package that includes the Fit Test and a personal trainer.

The first Fit Test (result: physiological age 56) enables my physical fitness to be evaluated so that my trainer could suggest specific exercises that would allow me to reach the goals that I had set for myself. Six months later, the second Fit Test: age 45.

I observe the positive results: an improvement on several fronts, muscle strength, flexibility, better cardiovascular endurance and 2,5 kilos thinner. As of November 23, 2009, my age is now 38.

December 2009. I renew my membership, again with the Fit Test and a personal trainer, since I am convinced that the Fit Test is the best tool for keeping my motivation and maximizing my investment.

The following is a brief account of my experience at the Plateau Mont-Royal Énergie Cardio centre.

Because the centre is located at the corner of my street, I walk by it daily, but one fine day in 2007, I wandered in. Why? Because I could no longer stand to see photos of myself overweight by 40 pounds. Like many other people, I waited until I had put on significant weight before I took steps to address the problem. And so I became a member, and I can assure you that it was one the best decisions I ever made.

The months passed and I kept up my routine, with an occasional program change, but my motivation was not at its peak. Now and then, I would fail to complete my exercises or go at it with a half-hearted effort using any excuse to justify my behaviour, until one day, during a Fit Test evaluation with Sébastien, I mentioned that I would be interested in working with a personal trainer. He recommended Sara who, in my opinion, is simply the best. Not every trainer is suited to you individually; there has to be a certain chemistry between the two of you. That’s what I have with Sara. We see each other once a week and I work out on my own two more times. My training goal is always the same: exceed my limits, and persevere, again and again.

In addition, I was determined to run the Montreal 10 km Marathon. In May 2009, Sara offered to coach me one more time each week in order to get me ready for the challenge. She taught me how to jog safely. You should have seen all the exercises she had me do; it was incredible! Finally, I achieved my goal thanks to her and I can unequivocally say that I would never have been able to do it without her.

At this particular stage in my life, I need my trainer like a tree needs a stake to develop properly.

My Énergie Cardio centre emphasizes customer service and I respond well to this attitude. My heartfelt thanks to the entire team for their professionalism and a big hug for my trainer, Sara.

Yanick Rousseau

Hello! My name is Yanick Rousseau. I am 38 years old. I am a machinist by trade and a part-time firefighter. When I signed up at Énergie Cardio in January 2008, my objective was to get down to 170 lb. by July by working out and watching what I eat. At the beginning of this adventure, I tipped the scales at 200 lb. It’s only while at work putting out a fire that I realized to what point I really wasn’t in top shape.

I started working out three times a week. As time went on, I saw the progress I was making and started to work out four times a week.

July came. I weighed myself to see if I had reached my objective: 173 lb. Wow! I had done it! I now weigh 162 lb, I work out 4 to 5 days a week and continue to eat healthy. Working out is now part of my lifestyle for good; it’s almost like a drug!

The benefits are that I no longer snore and am no longer out of breath when I am working as a firefighter. And it feels great to have gone from a size 36 to 30 - wow, what a great achievement! You become more proud of yourself, your self-esteem improves and you are no longer afraid to take on challenges.

For the last two years, I have been participating in the Défi gratte-ciel de Montréal, to benefit muscular dystrophy. You have to go up 8 skyscrapers in the city of Montreal, meaning 389 floors and more than 8,500 steps. You have to jog when you go up the first seven skyscrapers and be in full firefighter uniform when you go up the eighth skyscraper.

I encourage everyone to exercise. It will bring you so many benefits! Thanks to my four trainers and nutritionist!

I am a young 35 year old woman. Unfortunately, small health problems have been accumulating for several years and have prevented me from enjoying life to the fullest. In fact, I have had hypothyroidism for 5 years now, which resulted in extreme fatigue which I could not shake off. I therefore had difficulty finishing my work day, and I would wake up in the morning just as tired as I was the evening before. Furthermore, I often suffered from major headaches, and I was even diagnosed with Meunière’s syndrome (problems with the liquid in the inner ear that provokes headaches, dizziness and vomiting).

I was already registered at a training centre, but I did not go often. It was easy to feel sorry for myself and to tell myself: “Tonight, I am too tired and I feel sick. I will go tomorrow”. When I noticed that my health problems were only increasing because I had become inactive, and that furthermore, I was gaining weight, I decided to return to Énergie Cardio “just to see”.

Following my meeting with the kinesiologist, I finally made up my mind. I made him aware of my objectives and of my expectations with regards to the trainer whom he would choose for me, and he was very understanding and responsive to my needs. I must admit that I was still a bit timid and reluctant. However, I was wrong to worry! My personal trainer, Jean-François, is very motivating and always pushes me further. He changes my program regularly, and always inquires about my health status. He is totally involved, and helps me tremendously in achieving my goals. Thanks to his help, I have succeeded in losing 10 pounds in three months, which is enormous for me due to my problems with my thyroid gland and my metabolism. I also have less headaches, feel less nauseated and, it goes without saying, I feel much less tired and more in shape!

I am ending with a little note about the book Kilo Cardio, which has excellent recipes that are easy to make and that complement the training very well.

It is with some derision that I named my 2007 objective: Acquiring the body of a goddess at 53. After a 4-year membership, the inspiration for naming our objectives is running out.

But such is the result that I observe in the Fall of 2009! Training becomes a vicious circle: we train, we notice body changes, we train even more and we notice undeniable improvements. And there lies the key to motivation! As soon as we notice improvements, to which we attach the most importance, we hold the key to motivation. Thus, while having fun going through the routines (two or three times a week) which my favourite torturer (Élisabeth Séguin) suggested to me as the months went by, and after a weekly period of African dance, I transformed a mass of fat into a muscular mass that was very becoming.

All this at Énergie Cardio pour Elle in Boucherville. Thank you Élisabeth, Nathalie, Marie-Claude, Marie-Christine-the-Long-Eyelashes, and a special thank you to me for understanding the value of effort in acquiring first the body of a goddess, but especially for being in better shape physically and mentally.

I am very pleased to share with you today the progress I have achieved as a member of Énergie Cardio. My adventure began in August 2007 at the Longueuil centre. At first, everything went fine, until I suffered a moment of discouragement and my physical condition began to deteriorate steadily, to the point where I was tipping the scale at 418 pounds, with a 64-inch waistline. I had reached the end of the road after only one month. As a result, I had to keep taking drugs to manage my blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes; I even had to increase my dosages after the 2007 Holidays, adding insulin injections twice a day.

One January evening, Josianne and Anabelle from the Longueuil Énergie Cardio centre each contacted me, to talk me into resuming my training, because they felt that I had shown strong motivation at first, and they reminded me that a relapse could happen to anyone. And so, I asked for an appointment with Frédéric and was given one on February 2, 2009.

From that moment on, I never looked back, and I trained every day for 278 consecutive days before taking a single day off. The results were so fantastic that my doctor initiated a process designed to reduce the dosages of my medications. I was so encouraged that I seized the momentum and pursued my training seven days a week until June. At that point, my doctor took me off all my medications, explaining that my blood pressure and cholesterol were normal and that I no longer had diabetes.

I am now able to demonstrate the benefits of training to my detractors who claimed it was impossible and very expensive, by showing them the following calculation: even after adding in the cost of my membership to my annual budget, I still save $1,470 worth of medication, in addition to being in great shape!

Having brought my weight down to 275 pounds, which represents a loss of 143 pounds, I wish to thank the team members from the Longueuil and Valleyfield Énergie Cardio centres (Josianne, Annabelle, Frédéric, Sophie, Élaine, Émilie, Anne-Marie, Valérie, Déborah, Catherine, Michelle and Carl). Without your encouragement and sound advices, I would not have had such a glowing success, as more than once, your assistance proved invaluable.

I have to admit that the winning formula is based on a healthy diet combined with exercise. With proper will, everything is possible. There are no excuses for failure!

Last April 16, I was celebrating my 50th birthday. I weighed 167 pounds and my physical fitness left a whole lot to be desired. After years of taking care of others and finding a thousand excuses for the excess weight I was accumulating, I made the decision to register at Énergie Cardio and change my lifestyle.

I had already been changing my food habits since a few years before, but always procrastinating when it came to integrating physical activity in my weekly routine. Then on May 12, I took an important step: I went through my first training session. Two weeks later, May 26, I underwent my first Fit Test. Sad realizations! My weight stood at 162 pounds, and my body was physiologically 61 years old, in spite of its 50 years of chronological age.

I then set myself a goal: reach a physiological age equivalent to my chronological age, that is, 50/50, in three months. With the help of my personal trainer, Diane, I engaged in losing weight and improving my physical condition. I worked out in the training room three to four times a week. In the beginning, Diane was at my side twice a week, and never let go the bit on me! She made me discover numerous muscles I did not even know existed. I started to lose weight and find myself more beautiful. Moving became more and more enjoyable, and an evening without going to the gym often felt like a dull and even sad evening… I learned to like the feeling of exerting physical effort, sweating it out and surpassing myself.

Curiously, I became a model for some people in my circle. People who could not believe it was possible to be revived in a body they had neglected and let drift along. People who also enrolled in centres near their homes and joined me in shedding fat. Despite my going through a difficult period in my personal life at the time, everyone thought I looked more and more attractive every day, and it was true!

Regular physical activity is a natural anti-depressant that enables you to increase your self-esteem. Though you may gain a bit on the body outline, the gains in your general health are undeniable!

On September 21, 2009, I took a second Fit Test. Happy outcomes! I weighed 138 pounds and my body was physiologically 49 years of age. I had attained my objective. But that does not tell the whole story: on the contrary, it carries on every day! Making way for regular physical activity in my life turned out to be the greatest gift I ever paid myself.

As I am writing these lines, I weigh 130.5 pounds with an empty stomach when I take my morning shower. That is the objective Diane had set for me, and I cannot wait to show her at the end of the day when she will ask me to hop on the scale. After all, though I was the one who sweated through it, I can swear to you that without Diane, I would never have gone this far!

Sincere thanks to the Énergie Cardio team for their smiles and encouragement!

If you had asked me barely a year ago what physical shape I was in, I would have probably turned red before answering that I had quite a bit of work to do in that regard. I had already been a fairly sporty type and knew the benefits of regular physical activity, but I was well settled in my routine and had fallen into bad habits. In April, at which point I weighed 160 lb, I decided to take action. My Fit Test showed I had the body of a 47-year-old woman, not exactly wonderful for a 21-year-old.

I never would have believed I would feel so much pride and pleasure in achieving my goals. My trainer, Alexis Ménard, remains a great source of inspiration for me. He has often told me, “Come on! Keep going! Great! You can do it! You can do it!”

Thank you, Alexis, for enabling me to extend my limits, to believe in myself, to see myself as a beautiful person and to feel good about myself. It’s a team effort, but I owe you a lot. You encouraged me when I felt my goals were hard to reach and when my muscles were aching. Thanks to you, I have learned again how to live in harmony with my body that takes me where I’m going every day. That’s no small thing! I did it! Thank you so much for your determination, your positive outlook, your dynamism, your dedication, your listening, your smile and your unconditional good humour. You’ve done a great deal for me. You’re a fabulous trainer.

I sometimes have the urge to sit on a bench in a public place and tell everyone passing by about my experience, about just how good exercising can be, how it represents an investment rather than an expense, and how it can truly change your life!

When I started, I had far to go. I’d long been a big sleeper (12-14 hours a night) because I was always exhausted. I had attention and concentration problems. My mood would fluctuate and there was the difficulty of trying to have a “normal” schedule. Training dramatically changed my life - in every possible way. Now I need far less sleep in order to carry out my daily activities and both my concentration and my mood have greatly improved. And eight months later, I’m down to 132 lb.

You can do it, too. It won’t be easy at first, but you’ll quickly get right into it. I’ve been using the Énergie Cardio Plateau Mont-Royal centre on average four times a week since April and I’m always eager to go again. There, I’ve had the great pleasure of making a wonderful friend who shares my passion. Do it for yourself because you, too, can do it - because you, too, will feel the indescribable effects that give you wings. Whatever your goals are, believe in yourself and feel yourself coming fully alive again!

A year ago, I was a 35-year-old mother at the end of my rope. In addition to taking antidepressants for a panic disorder, I was in terrible physical condition. Climbing the stairs left me out of breath. Deep down, I knew that I simply could not continue on that path and that I had to regain my mental and physical shape, for both myself and my children.

So I decided to give myself a present. I signed up for Énergie Cardio’s Optimum 8 private training program. Three times a week, rain or shine, and no matter how good or poorly I felt, I made it to the gym, learned to train on my own, and best of all discovered how much I enjoyed it. Each one of the personal trainers who coached me took my training up a notch. I thank them all from the bottom of my heart. I am firmly convinced that through private training, I learned the proper way, and I had time to develop a routine and habits thanks to which I am now more autonomous and efficient. It turned out to be the best decision for me to make.

The first positive element was weaning myself off the antidepressants. Then, I gradually began to lose weight. To date, I’ve taken off 32 pounds. My physiological age has dropped from 61 to 54 on the Fit Test. I can do over 100 sit-ups. I run on the treadmill. Yes, me!!! It’s incredible. Each time I walk into the gym, I am proud of myself. When I look in the mirror, I am proud of myself. When I manage to perform an intense physical activity with my family, I am proud of myself. And the feeling is incredible.

I can’t imagine what my life would be like if I hadn’t made the decision to walk through the door of the gym a year ago. Because the gym truly changed my life, one small step at a time. One year later, the results are unmistakable.

I won’t lie to myself. The road is still a long one, I have a lot more weight to lose and the challenge is there every day. But I now realize that physical activity is a part of my life FOREVER, and that I plan to instil in my children an appetite for physical activity. They see me on the elliptical trainer, through the window of the drop-in day care centre, and I know they are proud of me. So you can expect to see me at the gym 3 times a week, come rain or shine. It’s a part of my life.

I wish to thank the entire team of Énergie Cardio Ahuntsic Elle for their warm greeting, kind words and lovely smiles, and thanks also to Kim, who always knew just what to say to motivate and urge me on.

Life is in the journey, not the destination, so do what you can and take it one day at a time. Go slow, do it right, and make your changes permanent. - Jillian Michaels (Biggest Loser)

Back in early November 2008, I weighed 270 lbs. and was suffering from a variety of health issues. My doctor had long been urging me to lose weight, but I always responded, “I’m not interested and I don’t have time to waste on workouts!”

One day I went to see this doctor about a knee problem that had been aggravating me for four months. He told me he couldn’t prescribe any anti-inflammatories because of my high blood pressure and blood sugar level. And so I decided, “That’s it! At 52, I don’t want to spend the rest of my life on crutches.”

I stopped by Joliette’s Énergie Cardio centre and said I wanted to lose 50 lbs. and get back in shape. They recommended I take the Kilo Cardio Silhouette program. To maximize my chance of success, my wife and I both attended the program twice a week and were assisted by a personal trainer. This was my debut in the world of workouts—an environment that would completely change me as a person.

When I enrolled, the centre gave me a copy of Kilo Cardio. The pictures in this book were both appetizing and attractive. “What a great start!” I thought. When I got home, I said to my wife who was taking the program along with me: “We’ll try every recipe in this book and that way we’ll know which ones we don’t like.” Kilo Cardio taught us how to eat properly and to understand how the right size for portion. I still dine out occasionally, but I’m careful what I choose and can now leave food on my plate once I’m full.

We met Louis-Philippe and things clicked with us from the first training session. He knows how to motivate you and get you to achieve your goals. Louis selected exercises that made few demands on my knee, but still helped boost its strength. He also had me do lots of cardio to lose weight. I found it quite difficult the first few sessions, but Louis was able to spur me on. He explained that workouts may not be easy, but the more the pain the greater the gain. I left with the sense of a mission accomplished. Thanks Louis-Philippe! I’ve become who I am today largely because of him. After six months of training with Fit Test, I felt like I was 33, although I was 60 when I started.

After eight months, I lost more than 70 lb, my waistline dropped from a size 44 to a 34 and my blood sugar and pressure were back to normal. My knee doesn’t hurt anymore. I sleep better, I don’t snore anymore and I don’t feel exhausted after work. I am delighted that I joined the Joliette’s Énergie Cardio centre. Thanks to all the staff, who always greeted us with a smile.

Dear members and future members,

I’d like to tell you my story, which I hope will inspire you to start exercising or keep exercising.

Before I joined Énergie Cardio, my physical condition was pitiful. Trouble breathing, dizziness, fatigue, frequent headaches and chest pains – all these ills that plagued me were brought on by the combination of the extra pounds I’d put on during my pregnancy in 2002, poor eating habits and a lack of exercise. The result was that I was 60 lbs. overweight.

My chest pains preoccupied me. Both my parents died from a heart attack and a cardiologist encouraged me to be physically active in order to lose weight and thereby eliminate the pains.

In April 2008, I had chest surgery to determine whether I had lung cancer. Happily, it was a false alert – no cancer. Since then, I’ve taken things in hand – I’ve quit smoking and, with my husband’s encouragement, I joined the Jean-Talon/Pie IX Énergie Cardio, where I was welcomed by Estéban, who enthusiastically explained to me how things function.

Kinesiologist Yann Gaudry administered out my first Fit Test and informed me my physiological age was 63 – 23 years more than my actual age. Ooch! But I didn’t let that defeat me - I entered the 10 Years Younger contest before the holiday season and followed Yann’s program to the letter.

Two months later, I took the Fit Test a second time. My physiological age was down to 51 – 12 years less than the first time. What progress! Wow! In addition to my training program, I took part in group classes with Émilie, who made me sweat to the max with her Step and Tae Boxing courses.

I meet with Yann, my personal trainer, on a monthly basis and thanks to his help, I’ve got energy to spare. I feel more in shape than ever before and my cardio capacity is excellent. Yann’s good mood is infectious. He knows how to keep me fully motivated. Plus, he listens to my needs and always encourages me to keep pushing myself so I progress further in my training. In 10 months, I’ve lost 42 lbs., I’ve regained my self esteem and I feel more beautiful all the time.

A thousand thanks, Yann, for giving me a new lease on life and passing on to me a passion for physical training. It’s a pleasure to work with him. Thanks to head trainer Youdelande for all her encouragement. Thank you, Elizabeth, for encouraging me to give this testimonial. Thanks to the whole Jean-Talon/Pie IX Énergie Cardio team for their extraordinary welcome and valuable advice.

Keep smiling and keep in shape!

For me health is above all a matter of willpower and perseverance. I began training regularly two years ago, three times a week. This was the result of a bet I had with a friend which was my main motivation. I then quickly began enjoying the training due to the friendly atmosphere, smiling and courteous staff and, of course, my trainer Cindy. Thanks ladies!

Today, training has become a passion. Every day, I get benefits from it both at the physical and personal levels, and I am able to manage my stress, to see things more positively, better posture as well as weight loss. I also developed a taste for healthy eating habits as well as for fruits and vegetables by reading the inspirational Kilo Cardio book.

Now, I am facing a second challenge – to keep what I have acquired. This will require more effort, but after all, it is easier to keep one’s health than to try and find it again! Happy training, and keep at it!

Wayne Galipeau

Hello, my name is Wayne Galipeau. I am 62 years old, and I would like to share with you my experience at the Énergie Cardio centre in Drummondville.

But, first of all, I would like to give you a little bit of history on my situation so that you can truly understand and observe the immense progress Énergie Cardio’s fitness program has allowed me to make. I am a person of limited capability since I was 3 years old. As a child, my lower extremities were paralyzed with encephalitis. However, this did not stop me from living normally, but when I was about 35 years old, things started to go downhill. Sarcopenia (muscular atrophy) starts to show adverse effects. I have to stop playing golf (even with an automated golf cart, it became too difficult). My legs become weaker and weaker. At 43, I start to use a cane. At 53, I have to stop cycling and finally, less than a year ago, at 61, the use of a second cane becomes necessary. That’s enough! I have to do something.

After a lot of research on the Internet, and especially because of my son’s constant insistence for the past few years, who told me: “Dad! You have to start physical fitness training. Your condition is not going to improve”. I went to meet the folks at the Énergie Cardio centre in Drummondville. I met Audrey, head coach and kinesiologist. She suggested a program with a personal trainer. September 26, 2008 was the day of my first meeting with Claudia, my trainer. The first weeks are very painful and difficult, but I persist and I work hard. I go to the gym twice a week, and whenever possible, a third time. I have a big goal to reach: cycle again (tricycle for adult) in the summer of 2009. I also wish to improve my muscular strength and somehow slow down the aging process, since scientific studies show that it is possible to rebuild one’s muscle mass even when you’re older.

Up until now, here are some examples of the benefits of my fitness program at the Drummondville Énergie Cardio centre:

Pedal Cycle: At first, I wasn’t even able to turn the pedal once. Nothing; it just didn’t want to turn. Today, I cycle 10 minutes, and the last two at intensity 5.

Stationary bicycle: During the first workouts, I was exhausted after 2 ½ minutes.
Today, I can go on for 15 minutes.

Leg press in sitting position: At first, I couldn’t even push 20 lbs without Claudia’s help.
Today, Wow! 100 lbs alone without anyone’s help.

The Bossu : When I first tried it, I could only stand 5 to 15 seconds before losing my stability. Today, I can hold on for 3 to 3 ½ minutes. I was even able to hold on for 5 minutes before losing my balance.

A very benign gesture like getting up from a chair without having to lean on something was difficult for me. Today, I get up from that very same chair without leaning on anything.

I could give you many more examples, but I think this is enough. And, in passing, I have started to cycle again. Unbelievable, don’t you think?

I want to thank from the bottom of my heart the entire Drummondville Énergie Cardio team for their encouragement and their support during my ten months with them. A very special THANK YOU to Claudia, my personal trainer, for having consistently supported and encouraged me. Without her, I would not have been able to do as much, I’m sure of it. I have other goals to reach. Thank you, Drummondville Énergie Cardio.

My getting into shape began in an unexpected way. One evening (as has been my routine for the last 20 years) I was sitting eating my big bag of chips and I was watching TV. That evening, I was watching a show that made me envy the participants: The Biggest Loser. At one point I saw a participant doing some stationery biking, but I felt she was not putting her heart into it and I began criticizing her. I hadn’t had time to finish my criticism of her when my consciousness gave me a jolt!

‘’And you, what are you doing? At least she is trying!’’

This stock taking shook me and it was the releasing element. In mid-August 2008, I slowly started doing stationary biking (my girlfriend Martine suggested that we buy one) and, in two weeks, I lost about 20 pounds (at the start, I weighed 240 pounds)!

The best thing about this is that those two weeks of biking awakened in me the desire to do more and better. It was at that point that I visited the Énergie Cardio center in Blainville.

My first real test was very difficult as I saw myself as the little old man among really-in-shape younger people. I do not know what gave me the strength to overcome my shyness. I was greeted with a lot of friendship and understanding, and this welcoming was the cornerstone of my getting back into shape. Thanks Claudia!

After that, I received warm and encouraging greetings without feeling that I was being judged for my years of inactivity.

My first real challenge was the Fit Test and, once again, I had to overcome a certain fear. But Marie-Hélène knew how to encourage me and found the right words to encourage me given with my pitiful physical condition.

My first trainer was Alexandre, kinesiologist, and when he took my blood pressure, he was worried to see it so high. I had to explain to him that the high blood pressure reading was due to my nervousness. We talked a bit about what I was experiencing regarding my decision to get back into shape, and he was able to make me understand that I was there for me and not to measure up to others.

Alexandre had to leave his position, but before he left, he made sure that I was in good hands so I got a new trainer, Valerie, a kinesiology student. Her kindness, good humour and “joie de vivre” helped me always try to exceed myself.

This adventure, up to now, has made me lose 60 pounds (I now weigh 182 pounds and it is staying that way) to the extent that my doctor has decreased my medication by 90% (blood pressure, asthma, digestion) and that, for close to two months, I do not use my CPAP machine to sleep (I suffer from apnea and have to use my CPAP machine to control it).

I only have thanks for Énergie Cardio and everyone who were and still are there for me. Thank you for helping me be reborn!

August 2008: 240 pounds, excessive size, back aches, no motivation.
June 2009: 182 pounds, normal size, back aches almost gone, I am full of energy!

I would like to tell you my story, as I find it is very important to see to what degree we can make ourselves feel better, and that it really is not complicated to get back into shape and to be fit. My first visit to the Énergie Cardio centre of Saint-Hubert goes back to the end of November 2008 when I met Josiane. She asked me many questions about my motivation and why I wanted to begin working out.

My objective was to lose 20 pounds in one year. Josiane surprised me by saying that this would be possible in three months or maybe less! I thought that that was almost impossible, and that she told me this just to register.

I began working out the next morning after I registered. I did a lot of cardio as it had been at least 5 or 6 years without any training. I was a former athlete, and now the only sport I did was watching sport in the living room and on my computer.

The F for Fit Test Day arrived! My trainer had me do many little exercises to evaluate my physiological age. At the end of my Fit Test, she gave me my results and, wow, my physiological age was 65. I admit that it was a shock, but it gave me additional motivation to train even harder.

Following a month of working out, I Iost about 10 pounds. During this month, I tried eating well and I discovered a fantastic book: Kilo Cardio. Still very motivated to lose my excess weight, I read it thoroughly, and it became one of the most valuable tools I had for my training. I never really liked diets, but this book is not a diet book. It taught me how to eat properly.

After three months of training, I reached my objective and more. I changed trainers and what a wonderful jewel Audrey was. She made me work hard, and I reached results that I could never have dreamed of.

Following more than five months of working out, I still continue working hard with the objective firmly in my mind to keep in shape and to continue following the excellent advice of my trainer, Audrey.

It had been several years that I had trained in a fitness room. However, as there had not been any improvement, I decided to take a private training program as I wanted to improve my cardio vascular capacity, my overall condition and my muscle endurance without putting on additional muscle.

Since January 2009, I had the occasion to work out three times per week with Marie-Ève Baudry, kinesiologist and head-trainer at Énergie Cardio Haute-Ville. She succeeded in only three months to considerably improve my cardiovascular capacity as well as tone my muscle mass without adding muscle, as this had been one of my concerns at the start of my private training program. With her training program, I improved my suppleness and coordinator, which is quite a feat.

Marie-Ève knows how to listen. If she sees that I am not up to par as I normally would be, she adjusts her training. Marie-Ève always has a good word to encourage me to exceed myself, to always do a bit more to reach the maximum during each training session. She is always in a good mood and blends professionalism with pleasure.

I hope to have the opportunity of working with her for a long time, and I wish that everyone had a Marie-Ève as a trainer.

At age 54, I had felt for some time that I had a fair amount of weight to lose. I wanted to take myself in hand, and I had gone to a few gyms, but without success. I had lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks and stayed at that weight without losing another ounce. I was so discouraged that I had thought seriously about liposuction. But before doing this, I made a last attempt. On July 14, 2008, I decided to visit the Centre Énergie Cardio de Longueuil on Chemin Chambly.

Extremely welcoming, positive and attentive to my expectations and needs, Anne-Marie Lauzon, the Center’s manager, suggested the Kilo Cardio Program: 3 private training sessions per week and a balanced diet. This framework seemed to be the ideal tool to get back into shape.

My training started on July 21, 2008. My personal trainer, Frédéric Morin, knew how to guide me and completely understood my expectations. The first sessions were quite difficult, but they went well. I had asked my trainer not to coddle me. Just by walking on the treadmill, doing muscle exercises, and then biking exercises, my body protested brutally and I thought I would not achieve my goal. I had the feeling that my heart would burst through my ears. Always encouraged by Frédéric, I regained confidence in myself and increased my endurance.

As I had told Frédéric at the start not to hold me back, I learned to push my effort to the maximum at each session. He was also demanding, but I knew that I would have to work very hard t get results. When I began my training, I weighed 243 pounds. In 8 weeks, I lost 28 pounds and weighed 215 from then on. This was phenomenal. Two weeks later, I lost another 2 pounds for a total of the 30 pounds I had set as a goal. I couldn‘t believe my eyes.

A huge thank-you to Frédéric. Without him, his presence, his encouragement, I would never have obtained these results. Thank you for your good humour, availability and encouragement. Thank you for everything. I am happy with the result, to see myself in this body which I had hoped to find again, and especially for not having had to go to an aesthetic clinic.

Thanks to the whole team at Énergie Cardio Longueuil and it is still fun to visit you from time to time even today.

I am a young 29 year-old woman who works full-time and who is the mother of three magnificent children. I had a specific goal – to lose weight. I knew that with this weight loss, my energy would return, that I would gain muscle tone, and that in short, I would be renewed when I got in shape. The recipe was simple: registering in a private fitness program.

Therefore, I visited Énergie Cardio pour Elle in Boucherville. There I met Geneviève, and we discussed my training needs. The next day, I began. I had sessions three times a week with Geneviève who pushed me and encouraged me. For 8 weeks, I attended faithfully, and followed the Kilo Cardio recipe book I was given and the results starting taking place very quickly.

I lost 16 pounds with the Kilo Cardio Silhouette program. I’m proud of myself. I lost weight, regained my energy and my body transformed itself. I decided to continue and train regularly to maintain and improve the results I had already obtained.

Thanks, Geneviève, for having helped me. Everyone should go and train. Take a bite for your health!

Everything began during the Holidays in 2007. I felt very tired at mid-day and had difficulty finishing my days. At work, days were difficult, because with 60 extra pounds to move around with, it became tiring and the days were extremely long.

This is why on January 16, 2008, after having seen some promotions at work, I decided to visit the Saint Hubert Énergie Cardio to find out what programs were available. The woman at customer service told me about the Kilo Cardio Silhouette which consists in following private training and a new complete diet developed by Isabelle Huot. This program was designed especially for me as I had a lot to lose.

The planning of the training sessions was complicated for me, as I work on 12-hour night and day shifts. The center’s manager, Robin, took my schedule and assigned me to 2 trainers so I could train according to my schedule. So, I believe I have made the best decision since my marriage: I decided to take the program and launch myself into a better world: better health and physical condition.

At the start, it was not easy as I had not done enough sport to keep myself in shape. I would like to thank my two trainers, Elianne and Alexandre, who helped me start my program properly, which would give me new life habits, as I had begun with virtually nothing. When I started, I had type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure; all diseases of a person my age (47) who doesn’t take care of his health. I was very tired, and I wanted to stop taking my medication.

I had quite a shock when I took the Fit Test and when Jonathan told me that my physical condition was that of a 63-year-old man. I don’t have anything against people of that age, but it gets your attention and you realize that you made the best decision.

After 8 weeks, I had lost 30 pounds and improved my physiological age by 3 years. I felt much better than I had at the start. I was happy with the result! I lost 30 pounds in only 8 weeks, which was phenomenal for me. So, I registered for 20 additional weeks as my ultimate objective had not yet been reached... At the time of writing this testimonial, it is July 16, 2008 and I have lost 53 pounds; I feel like a younger man full of energy and vigour, as following my 3rd Fit Test, I am now like a man of 47, my true age.

So, to summarize what Jonathan told me: now, we will rejuvenate your psychological age. Thank you Énergie Cardio, and especially Alexandre who made me work (tons of sweat) to reach better mental and physical health.

At the beginning of March 2007, for the first time in my life, my weight went over the 200 pound mark. Several weeks before I turned 49 and, since I’m only 5’8’’, I had to pull myself together and react to turn things around.

Until I turned 30, I had been able to maintain my weight between 155 and 160 lbs without having to worry about my diet. At that time, I had stopped smoking and we started a family. Six months later, I had gained 15 lbs and I gradually became much less active.

In the past 10 years, I have occasionally trained without really seeing any results. Luckily, our concern about bringing up our children with healthy eating habits pushed us to change our own dietary habits. However, I still had some habits that were more difficult to abandon (aperitifs, good wine, very generous portions, etc.).

Encouraged by my live-in partner, I took the bull by the horns and registered in the Kilo Cardio Silhouette program.

WOW! I wanted results and I got them. The very first week, I lost 4 lbs. Not only did I have no difficulty following the menu prepared by Isabelle Huot and her team, but I also took pleasure in cooking some of the meals she suggested. I trusted her and, even though I had to overcome some major cravings, I never felt weak or under-nourished.

The results, however, would not have been that impressive without my personal trainer Martine Vincent’s involvement. Martine helped me discover that I had the strength of character required to meet the challenge. She encouraged me to surpass myself day after day. As soon as a goal had been reached, we set another one and kept moving forward. She made me work hard, even very hard, but she especially taught me to like training and to push my limits. The joy of training motivated me to better follow my diet and vice versa.

I therefore lost 25 lbs in 8 weeks, and since I am now better equipped, I successfully lost five more pounds by myself two weeks after that.

In fact, I have just succeeded in going back 20 years. WOW!

We all know that starting out on a physical conditioning program and sticking to it regularly is not an easy thing. At the outset, I registered with my mom thinking that with the two of us, it would be easier. But I quickly found out that this was not what motivated me to go to the center.

In fact, I discovered a smiling and dynamic team at Énergie Cardio who gave me the desire to work out. The team is extraordinary, but especially Marie-Pier Maillé who showed me the right musclar training techniques and exercises.

During the long months of training, even if I at times thought of letting myself go, I thought again of all the advice that I had followed and all the efforts I had invested, and found the energy to continue.

When I arrived at the center, Marie-Pier was always there to encourage me and she has gradually become a friend.

Today, my mom does not work out much anymore, but I am continuing on with the help of your great team. Thanks Énergie Cardio! Thank you Marie-Pier!

And to all those who want to do as I have: don’t hesitate as the results are really worth it. And who knows? Maybe you will make a new friend…

Three years prior, I had stopped training due to personal hardships I had experienced. Having lost all interest in exercising, I put on at least 25 pounds.

One morning, I woke up and told myself: “Enough is enough”. I was tired of being out of breath at the least little thing. I felt sluggish at work come evening time and would end up going to bed very early, completely drained. Then I decided to go to the Énergie Cardio (Sorel-Tracy) Centre near my home where I was greeted with courtesy and respect. I took out a membership with a personal trainer and the adventure began.

Karine is my trainer. She is a very dynamic young woman, always smiling and always ready to help me reach my goal, which was to lose weight. The program was so diversified that I was never bored. Add to that Isabelle Huot’s recipe book and you can’t ask for more. I followed the book to the letter for eight weeks. I never experienced pangs of hunger as I always felt full. The recipes are easy and fast to make. Everything is good.

I now enjoy training, I eat well and I reached my goal thanks to my trainer who pushed me right to the end, and of course, my boyfriend who shares my recipes. I am really happy and appreciative. Thank you to the staff of Énergie Cardio.

We would like to say how satisfied we are with Énergie Cardio’s corporate services. When we asked Énergie Cardio to come up with a series of stretching exercises for us, our aim was to reduce musculoskeletal-related injuries our workshop mechanics suffer and at the same time build team spirit.

Alain Boulianne, our consultant, understood exactly what we needed and came up with the perfect solution. He sent Kim Lestage, a trainer, to our company to see firsthand what type of work our mechanics do and to determine a series of suitable stretching exercises. Each time we met with Kim, she was professional, dynamic and eager to understand our needs. Her follow-up throughout the whole process was excellent. The stretching exercise program she developed, as well as her demonstration, was much appreciated. Ever since, our team members have been happy to do their stretching exercises daily. They are quite pleased with the stretching exercises that they were given and tell us that they can feel the difference they make. We can’t wait to see the poster of the program which features one of our mechanics. We are certain that it will generate even more interest in the program. In the next few months, we’ll actually be able to measure the impact these stretching exercises will have had on our team members’ health.

We will gladly recommend this service.

As a homemaker and mother, when my youngest one began school, I was left with a bit more time to think about myself. With my doctor’s agreement and encouragement, I showed up at Énergie Cardio to take in some information. A few days later, I started on a Kilo Cardio program with my trainer Marie-Lise. I had never gone to a gym before, so I found it important to secure the support of a trainer to help me learn to train correctly and healthily without risk of injury. Marie-Lise’s knowledge and advice allowed me to build self-confidence over the ensuing weeks.

I never would have thought I would experience as much pleasure at sweating, but my trainer has a knack of finding the right words to make me progress. There is no doubt that boredom was never a part of this routine! The exercises suggested as part of my sessions were always very diversified, and my program evolved from one week to the next.

I will soon be in my thirties, and I have taken on a new self-esteem while shedding 20 pounds. The employees at Place Versailles Sélect pour Elle always greet me with a great big smile, even on cloudy, rainy days. It is like a huge helping of sunshine in my day when I go to train and take care of my health three times a week.

And how about those flavourful recipes suggested in the Kilo Cardio Silhouette menu? Simple, quickly prepared meals that have won over my whole family while having us discover ingredients we had never seen before. The sound culinary habits we have developed as part of my follow-up will do us good for a long time to come.

I have become so convinced of the benefits of such training that I have registered my spouse and my mother. Don’t my children deserve parents who keep in shape and take good care of themselves?

During a medical visit, the doctor who was monitoring my weight, hypertension, cholesterol and especially my diabetes, gave me two choices: insulin shots, because my glycemic levels kept rising, or an exercise program with a personal trainer. So I opted for the second choice, although at the age of 57, physical conditioning did not appeal to me at all.

Over a period of weeks, thanks to the patience, joviality and dynamic attitude of my personal trainer, Mélanie Simard, I managed to lose weight, to reduce my blood pressure and especially to bring down my glycemic levels. Without Mélanie’s help, I would surely have given up. Her good spirits, professionalism and encouraging words kept me smiling along with her.

Three times a week since last May, she has been providing me with a safe, diversified and personalized program. She keeps evaluating my progress and, most of all, she encourages me to accept challenges that I never thought I could meet. She inquires about my daily menus, suggests appropriate changes, gives me advice and kindly nudges me back on track if necessary. She even manages to momentarily draw my attention by speaking to me when she notices that my energy begins to wane, and succeeds in motivating me so that I can persevere and do even more.

I would also like to mention the warm welcome that members receive at Beauport’s Énergie Cardio Sélect pour Elle. When members arrive, Kim Boyd always greets them with a smile and gladly provides advice to help soothe their aching muscles when they need it. Heartfelt thanks to the entire Beauport team: Mélanie, Kim, Catherine, Amélie and the rest of you. Your collective support keeps us going and helps us regain the energy we’ve lost.

Towards the beginning of 2007, I decided to get back into shape and lose a few extra pounds. So I took out a membership at a local Énergie Cardio centre.

I train 5 or 6 times a week for about an hour and a half. In just three months, I managed to get back into shape and lose 30 pounds. I now feel much better about myself and everything I do seems easier. My asthma problem has practically disappeared, and as a result, I have less trouble doing activities that require good cardio resistance.

Many thanks to all the people who encouraged me during those three months and helped me get to the point where I am now.

Norbert Blanchette

Hello, my name is Norbert Blanchette and I am 56 years old. I would like to thank the Énergie Cardio team for helping me with the gift I made to myself: better health!

In October 2006, after several months of inactivity and weighting in at 184 pounds on a 5-foot 6-inch frame, I decided to do something about my health while filling in some of the free time I now enjoy as a result of retiring a few years ago. In early November, I showed up at Énergie Cardio to find out more about their programs. I was somewhat anxious as I had never trained before and I was experiencing some back and shoulder pain. Having no experience whatsoever, I signed up for a series of private training sessions to get some coaching and start off on the right foot. I also took the Kilo Cardio Silhouette program to get myself started on a proper diet. In just four weeks, I managed to lose 12 pounds, a result beyond my expectations.

Now, five months later, I have dropped 32 pounds, but that is not what gives me the most satisfaction. What really pleases me is being able to climb the stairs and not run out of breath, being able to maintain a physical activity for more than 5 consecutive minutes, no longer having back and shoulder pain, and no longer running out of energy. In addition, physical activity has a very positive impact on morale. I now work out six days a week and I am addicted to it. They say that winning the lottery doesn’t change you, but exercising will! Eating right and working out are habits that I intend to keep for good.

Many thanks to Ricky for developing training programs perfectly suited to my physical condition and for being such an outstanding motivator.

I think that the Kids in Shape program is excellent because it has enabled me to familiarize myself with the whole idea of training.

Being supervised by a trainer, I have gotten sound advice about every form of exercise and have been provided with the motivation I needed.

During my year of training, I had to stop for two months and quickly realized that I missed getting in shape and the structure that my training provided me with.

I started my training sessions on December 13, 2006. Christine, my trainer, took charge of me and made very sure I understood the motives that pushed me into training and conditioning.

After having taken notice of my objectives, she prepared a very detailed conditioning program, made it a point to practice all the program’s exercises with me, and ensured I could do them over again all by myself. For six weeks, she professionally coached me by giving me the soundest advice and high-quality assistance.

In the week of January 21, 2007, I had acquired some training self-sufficiency and began working out alone. Even now, I have become fully self-reliant, but I still take advantage of advice from the numerous trainers always present on the floor. They are always eager and prompt to help, and available for questions or extra practice. The atmosphere that pervades the centre, training personnel’s availability, the centre’s re-design and re-fit, and especially the obvious progress I have noticed within myself, both mentally and physically speaking, all fuel my motivation to show up on the average four days a week to train.

I started training at Énergie Cardio in January 2005. At first, I explored the different group classes, and quickly became interested in the Step class. I would alternate between the group classes and the machines.

It is really in January 2007 that I took my training program more seriously. I train four times a week, and I watch what I eat. I follow a Step 3 (duo-step) class. I really like this class because of the sense of companionship it provides. The women go there to have fun and it shows. I train on the cardiovascular machines three times a week. I quickly noticed a difference. My cardio improved; I am out of breath less often, and I have more energy. The advice and encouragement from the Énergie Cardio staff helped me to continue. However, my greatest reward was the weight loss. I lost 19 pounds in 12 weeks, and that was just the beginning!

When I won a 12-month Énergie Cardio membership in 2000, I had no idea what a wonderful adventure I was embarking upon. First of all, I knew nothing about gyms, having never frequented one. Furthermore, I did not know Danny, the owner of the Beloeil centre, a kind and honest person. Nor did I know any of the trainers, who are always eager to help me. Exercise was foreign to me. I was starting from scratch.

I went through all the stages, learning the movements, familiarizing myself with the various machines and their operation, and the most difficult task, convincing myself that all this would do me a world of good. The first months are crucial and I received valuable assistance from the staff for performing the routines. But I wasn’t alone. My wife Huguette accompanied me from day one. With support from one another, it is much easier to maintain the level of motivation, which tends to waiver on occasion.

The benefits were not long in coming. A loss of excess pounds (10% weight reduction in my case), improved muscle tone, physical and mental wellness, and an exceptional sense of well-being after my workouts convinced me that these three weekly sessions were a relatively small investment, considering the real and visible results. I intend to continue as long as I am able.

Furthermore, I’ve met people who have gradually become friends, with whom I practice another form of ‘exercise’ that involves discussing all kinds of topics and discovering even more reasons to appreciate Énergie Cardio. Not to mention that I also enjoy chatting with Danny and instructors like Véro and Nicolas, who help me considerably by suggesting new exercises that make me feel even better. Thank you for giving me the tools that allow me to remain fit. Thank you to all the members of the Énergie Cardio team.

Summer over and a few pounds heavier, I was not in the best of shape. It was only in January that I decided to join a fitness program. At first I wanted to take some aerobics classes, so that I would commit to a schedule. I called a few fitness centres to find out about the classes they offered and the times they were at. Then, someone at Énergie Cardio told me about their private training sessions.

At the beginning, I was somewhat uneasy about training in a gym, but I liked the idea because I was committing to supervised weekly training sessions, which fit my schedule and were adapted to my needs.

I started off with an 8-week program. Having a personal trainer allowed me to learn all about the gym and all the equipment. I remember at our first meeting telling my trainer not to force me to do 30 minutes of cardio because I would die from exertion. Well, within 8 to 10 weeks, I was able to do it without that much difficulty. On top of that, I had lost 75% of the extra pounds I was carrying. I decided to sign up for another 8 weeks of private training sessions, but to train twice as much – 90 minutes instead of 45.

The trainer understood my needs and was able to evaluate my fitness level immediately. Thanks to him, I took up challenges that I never would have on my own. On those days that I didn’t have as much energy (usually the days you don’t go to the gym), I still trained, and surprisingly enough, I was able to complete the session without too much difficulty. I would leave the gym happy and pleased with myself.

In addition to keeping us motivated, the trainer makes sure that each exercise is performed as it should be, with the right equipment. Such close supervision also helps to avoid injuries, which can result from performing an exercise incorrectly. The sessions are very dynamic; whenever the trainer sees that an exercise is too easy, he switches to another so that the targeted muscles are fully solicited. The program changes constantly; the trainer adjusts the weights as required, and maintains a pace appropriate to each person’s goal to complete the circuit.

I would like to thank the centre’s director, Émilie Côté, for her excellent customer service, and especially my trainer, Eric Bélanger, for helping me to surpass my objectives. Finally, I’d like to say that once you get started, you’re hooked.

I’d like to share my outstanding experience at the Énergie Cardio centre in Old Montreal. I also want to stress the professionalism, customer service, commitment and motivating attitude of four people, namely Jessica, Marc-Antoine, Sofia, and especially Alexandre Lussier for his incredible support as my personal trainer.

Before I began training, I weighed approximately 255 pounds. I had very poor self-esteem, and saw myself as being overweight and unattractive. Because of my weight, I was often intimidated by fitness centres, and never felt like I belonged. I tended to compare myself to the people around me and felt like I was being judged by the staff in other fitness centres. Now that I am training at Énergie Cardio, my perception has changed. Had it not been for Jessica’s warm welcome, and the time spent providing me with details regarding the programs and the range of trainers available to me, I would never have made it this far. In fact, had it not been for this friendly welcome, I wouldn’t have signed up as a member.

From the very start, Alexandre took the time to listen to my needs and help me set some realistic goals for myself. He designed a flexible program that allowed me to exercise at my own level of intensity and work my way up from there. Even though my initial performance fell way short of where I am now, I never felt like I was being judged. Each time I managed to perform a series of exercises, Alexandre pushed me to continue and surpass myself every step of the way. He always has a new exercise that he can add to my program as a means of raising the intensity level without my being aware of it.

In addition, he is able to explain the purpose of each exercise and its benefits for me. In essence, with Alexandre, I know what my goals are and how to attain them. I know what I’m doing and why. I am constantly monitored and motivated. I don’t feel like I’m just another client, but rather a person whose success is an essential part of my trainer’s own success.

I now weigh 219 pounds. I feel fit and well balanced, and I am rebuilding my self-esteem. I am starting to feel comfortable about my body and appearance, because although I am still overweight, I know what my goal is and I am getting closer to it with every training session. I owe this success largely to Alexandre who has been there for me every step of the way and I just wanted to point it out.

Thank you once again and see you at the gym!

I’d been thinking about training for a long time. A few of my coworkers had joined a gym and, each time they returned from a workout, they would claim to be in better shape, talk about the weight they’d lost and how proud they felt. I’m 31 years old, I quit smoking over two years ago and I subsequently gained some weight (approximately 20 pounds). Rather sedentary by nature, the only sport I practiced was rollerblading, and then only when I got the chance to get out there. Because of my weight gain, especially around the waist, I didn’t feel very good about my body.

After gathering information about gyms from my colleagues, I finally decided to take the plunge. I made my way to the Beauport Énergie Cardio centre. The employees were very friendly and quickly made me feel at home. After receiving information about the packages, I was given a tour of the centre. My fears quickly subsided.

In choosing a package, I knew I needed a heavy dose of motivation, so I opted for some private training sessions. That’s how I came to meet Sonya, my trainer. Very attentive to my needs as always, she designed a program for me, based on the goals I wanted to attain.

It took me 6 weeks to achieve my goals: I lost close to 17 pounds and my waist size shrank substantially. When I climb the stairs, I’m no longer out of breath. I feel better about myself. I’ve taken out an annual membership; I go to the gym 4 or 5 times a week and I’ve set other training objectives for myself.

If I have questions, want to change my program, etc., Sonya is always attuned to my needs. I’m very pleased to have made her acquaintance. The atmosphere at the centre is very friendly and you get to meet some interesting people. I haven’t given up the idea of taking private training sessions once again. It certainly is motivating. I find it very helpful to have regular contact with a trainer, and to receive encouragement. I highly recommend these sessions.

Many thanks to the entire team of the Beauport Énergie Cardio centre. They are always available when you need anything at all. A very special thank you to Sonya with whom I have a really good time whenever we cross paths at the gym.

I have been a member of the Blainville Énergie Cardio centre since this branch opened in 1990. I have definitely been bitten by the Énergie Cardio bug.

In the past I completed two weight loss programs. During the first program, in 1990, my body fat percentage dropped from 30% to 19%. I joined another weight loss program in 1992, after a pregnancy. At that time my body fat percentage went from 24% to 20%.

Since I joined, I go to the centre regularly (3 times a week), but like everyone else I have ups and downs! When I flag a bit and then start going regularly again to the centre, I say to myself “Gosh, does this feel good!” “How did I ever manage without it?” And here I am again!

I like the opportunities offered to me at Énergie Cardio. If I feel like doing weights and exercise machines, I book an appointment with a trainer and I get a brand new program that fulfills my needs and expectations. And at some other times, I might want to take group classes. There are plenty of activities to choose from; all I have to do is register!

Now, at 43 years old, I don’t have the same fat percentage as in my 20’s. However, I keep in shape and I especially like to come to the centre and meet regularly with my trainer. Cathy changes my program to keep me interested to come here. She gives me small physical challenges, just for me! Cathy takes time to come and see me when I’m at the centre. I feel appreciated and I can say that Cathy is a friend. I like the ambiance in the centre and the trainers’ smile.

Try it and you’ll love it!

I started working out at Énergie Cardio in January of 2007. At that time, I had very little energy; I had difficulty concentrating at work, did not sleep well and was often tired. In the past, I had joined a fitness centre, but I never reached my goals, due to a lack of discipline, motivation and perseverance. This time, I was committed to reaching my goals. I was fed up with my quality of life and wanted a change.

That’s why I decided to take a private training membership, to increase my chances of success. Today, I am very happy with my choice and with the quality of the work I have accomplished with my trainer, Ugo, at the Énergie Cardio centre in Drummondville. Together, we set realistic and attainable goals at the start of the program. I’m very proud of the results I’ve achieved thus far, and I think I have progressed a lot.

The private training program is a must for me and I recommend it for everyone, whatever their age or physical condition. I recommend it particularly for people who are starting a workout program. In first place, choosing private training is important because the trainer is present during the entire session. He/she ensures that you are in the right position for each exercise in the program. The trainer motivates and encourages you to do your very best with each exercise and repetition to get the maximum benefits. The trainer also varies your exercises constantly to avoid monotony and maintain your motivation. He/she explains the advantages and benefits of each exercise. Finally, the trainer follows-up on your progress; increases the weights at the right time and congratulates you on a job well done at the end of each workout session.

My trainer, Ugo, has done an excellent job. He knows how to follow my progress; he has done a fantastic job with great professionalism, tact and firmness that has allowed me to reach my goals. I enrolled in a one-hour program, three times a week and I am always looking forward to my next session. Thank you to Énergie Cardio and to Ugo for helping me get back in shape, for a better quality of life and improved mental and physical health.

No price is too high for being fit and comfortable in our bodies and minds. Investing in private training will pay off in the long term.

did it! I have succeeded! I always put off losing weight, but I never stopped thinking about it.

After a recent development, I decided to do things right. So, I started shopping around for a fitness centre. I was very well received at Énergie Cardio. I was greeted with a smile and they took the time to explain all the programs to me. I opted for the Kilo Cardio Silhouette program that helped me achieve my goals: losing weight and getting in shape.

I was supervised by a great trainer who oversaw my program perfectly and always had some encouraging words for me. Sessions were arranged to fit my schedule and the diet is so well structured that I was never hungry.

Together, all these factors contributed to my success. In addition to losing the weight I wanted to lose, I now love to do something just for me: namely exercise. I am proud of myself, of my progress and, most importantly, my three daughters are proud of their mother.

In the winter of 2005, I started to have acute arthrosis attacks in both knees, which caused me great pain when I moved and practiced my favourite sports. Being retired, it did not bode well for my future. So I decided to consult an orthopaedic surgeon who confirmed that I needed prosthesis to alleviate my knee problems. A file was opened and after my next attack I was to have the operation.

Not being one to pity my luck, I signed up at an Énergie Cardio centre in the fall of 2005 to get in shape, lose some weight and maybe improve the condition of my knees. I was convinced that exercising could do something for me. The very kind person that met with me quickly helped me build confidence. A program was suggested that included exercises to build muscles, a cardio workout and a change in diet. After four months, I started to see positive results. I had less pain in my knees. The energetic and good-humoured trainers greatly helped to motivate me; I was really encouraged.

Today, in May of 2007, the results have exceeded my expectations. I have no more pain in my knees and we are no longer talking about an operation. Physical exercise and a good diet have become integral parts of my life and I don’t see it ever stopping. I trusted the trainers, I persevered and I’m proud of it. I feel better in my skin, my blood pressure is that of an athlete and my cholesterol level is excellent.

Thank you to the entire team at Énergie Cardio Sorel-Tracy for their welcome, enthusiasm and competence.

Who said aerobic dance was easy? That you did not get enough exercise? That is was particularly suited for women? That it was boring? Well, there’s nothing further from the truth!

I am a 35 year old man. I joined Énergie Cardio towards the end of October of 2004 to get back in shape and lose some weight. The team advised me to vary my workout so that I would stay motivated and continue to enjoy exercising. I decided to start with the Cardio Latino dance class with Chantal. Since I have always been sedentary, this was perfect for a beginner like me. Simple movements, some muscle work and relaxation, all of it to Latin music.

In January of 2005, I decided to take a class that was a bit more intense. Nathalie told me that her aerobic dance class was what I needed. The program is made up of several parts: warm-up followed by aerobic, military, tae-boxing, stretching exercises and relaxation. I tell you honestly that 50 minutes of this class are more rewarding than a 60 minutes workout on the treadmill or the climber. The movements change constantly. It is never boring. It is not an easy class, but Nathalie always teaches us different movements. I love this class so much, that I go twice a week.

To complete my workout, I took an Énergie Yoga class instructed by Chantal once again. Physical health is wonderful, but we must not disregard our mental health. This class allows me to forget my problems for a while. I have learned to breathe better, to relax but have also improved my balance, posture and flexibility. Leg and arm muscles work a lot to keep certain positions. After the session, I am always calmer, less stressed and more confident.

I have lost 20 pounds since I joined and I have developed muscles. I advise anyone, particularly men (don’t be afraid guys; it does not diminish your masculinity!) to take at least one group class. Satisfaction guaranteed!

In September 2006, I was turning 30. It was time to take stock of my life and I was forced to admit that my physical condition was a serious obstacle to my well-being. I had spent the last 5 years of my life obsessing and anguishing over my health and my weight. None of the many diets I tried brought about a miracle. The signs of inactivity were increasingly more visible. However, the psychological consequences were to me the most devastating: zero self-esteem, fatigue, guilt, frustration, despair …

My life revolved around my limitations; sports activities had become tortures, summer a cursed season, shopping a constant challenge, beaches and pools horrible places… My body was not in sync with my personality, my dreams, the life I wanted to live. I had to turn this around!

When I signed up at the Énergie Cardio centre of Nouveau-Rosemont, I knew that failure was not an option. But because the risk of dropping out was high, I stacked the odds in my favour by choosing to be helped by a personal trainer in the Kilo Cardio Silhouette program. I did not feel good right away about my new undertaking; despite my best intentions, I knew it would be an uphill battle. The first weeks were very hard. Working out did not come naturally to me. Without my trainer, Annick, I don't think that I would have lasted very long. She gave me the necessary confidence. She was empathetic and attentive. She encouraged me and supported me exactly the way I needed.

In Danny, my second trainer, I found a super encouraging success model. We often discussed how being in shape changes your life. With him I wanted to achieve and slowly discovered the pleasure of working out.

With Félix, my third trainer, I developed the desire to excel, to go further, but above all I am finally certain that I will never go backwards. I know that I will always have to be disciplined. Maybe, often I will need some encouragement, but now I have self-confidence and know that I will always find the necessary support in the team of the Énergie Cardio centre of Nouveau-Rosemont to achieve my goals.

A big thank you to the entire team!

Marie Carle

My name is Marie Carle. I am 72 years old and have been going to Énergie Cardio since February of 2003.

I signed up because I wanted to lose weight and get in shape. I achieved my goal. I lost 27 pounds and my health is much improved. My blood sugar is lower and my blood pressure also dropped. I feel much fitter. Now I can climb stairs without getting out of breath.

The Énergie Cardio pour Elle staff are very friendly. When I arrive, I’m always greeted with a warm “Hello”. I know that they check on me discretely while I am doing my exercises. If I do something wrong, someone comes to correct my movement. I appreciate that very much.
I go to the centre three times a week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Each time, I’m happy to see the friendly and welcoming girls. I am delighted to be a part of your centre and I thank the lucky chance that took me there.

Sincerely,

Marie Carle

In November of 2004, I suffered a cerebrovascular accident (AVC) and was hospitalized for three months. I survived, but was left with a general weakness on the left side in addition to a lack of endurance and a 20 lbs. weight gain, due in part to my lack of mobility and my love of good food, which I rediscovered during my convalescence.

After discussing the matter with my doctor, in May of 2005, I went to the Énergie Cardio centre in Lachine and signed up for the private training program (PEP). My personal trainer, Frédéric, assessed me. I remember that at the time, I was only able to do seven minutes on the stationary bike at the lowest resistance and I needed a long time to recover.

Two months later, I was able to go for 35 minutes and make a greater cardiovascular effort. Under the watchful eyes of my trainer and the applause of the entire staff at the centre, I was able to run without pausing for a minute and a half on the treadmill.

I am grateful to my trainer and the entire staff for their support during this crucial period of my recovery. They made the difference. I am sure that without the private training program, I would never have made so much progress.

I am also proud of my performance. I now weigh 10 pounds less and I am progressing constantly. Thanks to the pleasant atmosphere at the Lachine centre and the encouragement of the entire team, I am enjoying working out again.

I would like to share with you my success with Objective Health, which may encourage other people, who, like me, thought they were incapable of succeeding because of a lack of willpower or perseverance.

Difficulties in my daily life prompted me to want a change. With two children aged one and five, a spouse in the middle of a career change and a demanding job, I had no energy, was always tired and wasn’t eating properly. I weighed 192 pounds and the only exercise I got, was looking after my children. I was in dire need of energy and needed to get back in shape.

At Énergie Cardio, I achieved both my goals: a better diet and precious moments just for myself, thanks to an effective personalized program. Five months later, I had lost 47 pounds. Many people around me asked me what the secret of my change was. I told them, my secret is a healthy diet, physical activity, and above all, willpower. In life, where there’s a will there’s a way!

At the age of 48 I realized that a drastic change was crucial. I set myself the goal of reaching a healthy weight by the time I turned 50. At the age of 49, having lost only 23 lbs., I recognized that I had to add physical activity to my new diet.

For several years, I had passed the Énergie Cardio centre in Saint-Hubert and said to myself: “One day, I will get a membership.” That day was April 6, 2005. My transformation took place surrounded by a young, competent and dynamic team, who knew how to put me at ease in a pleasant, relaxing and well-equipped place. But I must not forget to mention the excellent work of my personal trainer during these 34 weeks. Without his help, I could not have reached my goal. Our relationship was one of trust, support and humour. So, a big thank you to Alexandre Hottote for allowing me to reach my fiftieth birthday in a positive frame of mind, with a healthy weight and more energy, not to mention the new way I and others see me.

Now, my new challenge is to maintain and, if possible, improve on this new image and energy by myself, while being surrounded by your wonderful team. Thanks to all. Thank you Alex.

I am writing you this letter to thank you for giving me a second chance at life, a second wind. Thanks to you, I am a totally new woman full of energy, cheerfulness and health. When I came to you in February of 2005, I was not in great shape and my self-esteem about my physical appearance was not the highest. Carrying 272 pounds on a 5 foot 10 frame, I felt heavy and old for my age. I had been overweight for more than ten years, but with the help of your team, I have conquered my obesity.

With your energetic dedication and warm welcome, you have given me back the necessary confidence and perseverance to make progress without giving up. At the age of thirty, but 86 pounds lighter, I am in better shape than I was at age 20! I will be grateful to you all my life. When I come to work out at the Terrebonne centre, I actually come to have fun, to escape and share a laugh with my Énergie Cardio group.

In particular, I want to thank Denis, Julie, the head trainer, and Valérie and Mélissa, who have known how to put me at ease, encourage me and give me an energy I had never known before. Denis, thank you for your patience, your availability, your positive energy, your sense of humour and your professionalism. Thanks to you, I have discovered a passion for the Step and I have finally learned to love a sport. Keep up the good work, you are an exceptional trainer and adorable! Julie, thanks for being such a great listener, for your charm, your sense of humour, your professionalism and your availability. Thanks to you, I will have a firm body and high spirits! Thank you, Valérie and Mélissa for listening and for your daily encouragement. You are my sunshine! In short, I adore you. Above all, don’t change! A beautiful team like yours, that’s something fantastic!

A transformed client.

A big thank you to Énergie Cardio for the PEP private training program that was suggested to me. I just love it. This enriching experience has taught me to like getting in shape, thanks to my extraordinary trainer, Eduardo, and his awareness raising skills. With his sense of humour, kindness, motivation and varied programs, he has encouraged me to continue my exercise program with all the effort this demands. In him I found the motivator I needed and in whom I put all my trust; he is totally aware of the work I must do. Thanks to both of us, my health is much improved. For six months now, it has become a pleasure for me to work out three times a week.

I recommend that people of all ages make it their goal to be happy in their skin and take control of their health. At Énergie Cardio, everyone is standing by to help us get there. I hope you treat yourself to this gift “from me to me”.

Thanks to Jean-Philippe and his team. Something like that requires a great deal of organization. Congratulations on your wonderful work. The beautiful smiles, the hellos that greet us, the warm handshakes, I found all of these at Énergie Cardio.

In August 2003, I was thinking of the goals I wanted to accomplish. So, in September 2003 I decided to join a gym. I was already doing aerobics twice per week and trying to lose weight. I would lose 10-12 lbs. then gain it back like a yo-yo.

This time I decided I was really going to invest in my goal. So I did my homework and found a gym (Énergie Cardio Forum Pepsi) close to where I work. It was a bit of a financial investment since I decided to get a personal trainer. I fully committed myself to this goal, was very determined, and I really wanted to lose the weight and transform myself.

It has been a wonderful experience. I have lost 42 pounds and I have done this gradually. I first got used to exercising three times per week. Then I made changes to my diet. Slowly, but surely, the weight came off. Now I am a new person. I have a lot more energy, am more fit, and look physically better. I have gone through a lot of positive changes on the inside and I can now say that the outside (the physical part) reflects the inside. I am so pleased with this successful transformation.

I would like to thank Énergie Cardio for their technique of assigning clients to personal trainers – it really works for weight loss. I would also like to thank my personal trainer Patrick Gravel for being such an excellent, dynamic motivator and for being very innovative with his program. Thanks – it's been great experiencing success!

Profile: 36 years old, customer service representative (regularly on the road), three children. Motivation: regain my energy, lose weight, gain muscle tone and get back in shape. Method: excellent personal trainer, Normand Jacques, six months, three to four times a week. Results: my clothes size has gone from 16 to 8. I am full of energy and have much better muscle tone.

The Kilo Cardio Silhouette program is easy to follow, the menus can be adapted for the entire family and the recipes are delicious. The key to success is to include exercise in your daily agenda and to stick to it faithfully: it is above all an appointment with yourself!

Normand, once again thank you for your valuable advice on nutrition and health, your support, your encouragement and the varied programs, tailored to my situation. All of this, together with my determination allowed me to reach my goal successfully! Many thanks too to the marvelous team of trainers at the Saint-Hubert Énergie Cardio center.

I love the Énergie Cardio group classes, because they are stimulating and interesting. A wide variety of routines are designed to work out different body parts. The course schedule is flexible. The instructors are motivating and push me to the limit. After my class, I am proud of myself. Working in a group gives me energy and an opportunity to meet new people. I recommend this type of training for everyone. Personally, I couldn’t do without it anymore.

Workouts… Wellbeing… What exactly do these words mean? For those who aren’t sure, go to Énergie Cardio and you’ll find the answer. What’s important for me, above all, is to be in shape and to feel good in my skin.

I’ve been going to Énergie Cardio for more than eight years and, believe me, the variety of classes available means there’s something for everyone. Whether you are looking an intense workout or something easier, or simply want to relax, you’ll find a course that works for you, guaranteed!

I’ve had the chance to take different classes with benefits that are as spiritual as physical. Step, Cardio Tae-Boxe, Super Workout, Yoga, of course, and lots more. I’m really motivated. My goal is to not miss any of them. I’ve noticed over the years that my classes improve my inner wellbeing as much as my cardio capacity and endurance. When you add that all up, you’re sure to feel better.

I’ve also met lots of wonderful people. With some, we just smile and say hello, and with others we’ve become really good friends. That’s why I’m always eager to be at the centre.

Among the smiles I regularly receive are those of the manager of the Énergie Cardio in Saint-Léonard. She always welcomes me with a cheery “Hello Manon.” And then there are the smiles of the friendly trainers and all the others who know me.

Special thanks go to my favourite instructor, Anik Chagnon, for her dedication, savoir-faire, energy and especially her good humour. Anik is like a member of my family. With her, I have fun while working out, I relax while doing yoga. Thank you for being there to answer all my questions! It’s funny, but she always has the right answer… For me, that’s really important – because that’s what competence is all about.

At Énergie Cardio, we’re not just customers. Each of us is made to feel at home. Each of us is important. Thank you so much!

During a certain period of my life, not so long ago, I thought it was almost ridiculous how people would regularly hole themselves up in a gym – for their wellbeing! Well, I’ve changed since then. Now I enthusiastically work out indoors, at least three times a week! No, I don’t undergo a brainwashing. Nor am I forced to do it. Of my own free will, I signed up with the goal of maintaining my physical health, which had started to become cause for concern.

To explain, here’s my story, in a shortened version. Four years ago, I made the decision I had to make: I had to lose major pounds and get my weight down. The decision was followed by a diet and radical efforts to get in shape. At that time, all I could do was a little swimming, which was very good for me. After reaching my goal (to lose a third of my weight – a total of 100 pounds!), I asked myself if I could go further still. To see, after much reflection I joined Énergie Cardio.

In response to my request, they suggested a program of cardiovascular and muscle-building exercises. I am disciplined by nature and expected to get results rapidly. Clearly, everything was going much too well… Then two years ago, I had a very bad car accident, an event that really put my perseverance to the test. Very lucky, my collarbone was not broken. But healing took much time and is still not complete. I had to face reality: it was impossible for me to do my workouts as before.

With the approval of the physiotherapist, I started to work out again. Progressively, I regained my cardiovascular capacity. Despite my discipline and good intentions, it was frankly very difficult and painful to work out on the machines. That’s when I discovered group classes. Why not have fun while exercising? First I took a hip-hop class. I told myself that I would try out all the classes to make an enlightened decision on which class to take, but I never managed to try them all. The number of different classes that I tried turned out to be inversely proportional to my time in the class! Why? It was all the instructors’ fault! Don’t get the wrong idea, I’m only referring to their way of doing things, of reaching out to us, of planning their classes – and even their personalities!

From that point, I have been a regular in the classes, which helped me get fitter and acquire a wide network of acquaintances. Some became friends. I sincerely believe that those who make the choice to get fit through these classes are doing it for the best reasons: to find once again the pleasure of having fun with other people while learning to understand the strengths and weaknesses of their bodies.

When I remember my first group class, only one thing comes to mind – how timid I was. I felt like an alien. The first few times I went, I was wearing colours that were frankly disarming, bright reds that were clearly not invisible.

At first, I wanted to hide in the back of the room, as far as possible. I thought I could fool the others. I can now admit that that was not the best attitude to have. Paradoxically, the more I moved towards the front, the more comfortable I felt. That was an epiphany: It’s possible to work out seriously while having fun! That’s when I realized that my former fitness program had become perfectly useless and I decided to come to as many classes as I could.

I don’t regret my decision because it brought me both pleasure and great cardio and strength training, and, at the same time, my motivation was multiplied tenfold, my coordination improved and I received many other benefits as well. To keep up interest, the instructors make every effort to design programs and choreographies with the sole purpose of meeting our needs, which are ever-growing. Very professional, they show great creativity and openness. They all want the same thing: the ongoing participation of their groups.

Today, I can reaffirm, loud and clear, my total conviction vis-à-vis these group classes. I’m convinced they are an excellent way to maintain a healthy mind in a healthy body. A cliché? Not at all! That’s the truth, and only the truth, I swear – on my health!

I’m 35, and over the past five years I accumulated an extra 50 pounds for two reasons:

· I quit smoking (five years ago)
· I’m always on the road.

For a long time, I thought about getting in shape. The lack of time and motivation kept from taking steps to do anything. Same thing for my eating habits. But the situation wasn’t getting any better. I would rapidly run out of breath, and I was increasingly uncomfortable with my appearance and waist size.

I finally made the decision to go to the Énergie Cardio in my region. I was determined to make an effort to succeed. My fear of gyms came from feeling out of place, but Francis and his team quickly made me feel at home.

Having a personal trainer was the key to my success, because I was monitored on a regular basis, I had a program adapted to my needs, and, above all, I had a priceless source of motivation. It’s always easier to be motivated by someone than to motivate yourself, as the results show. After eight weeks, I was down 23 pounds, had no missed training sessions, was in better shape – and had some new friends!

A word about the personal trainers who helped me out – Marie-Josée and Valérie: they were able to make my workout an appointment I didn’t want to miss. They are more dynamic than anyone I’ve ever known, with a great sense of humour and, despite their young ages, they have plenty of experience in the field and I trust them.

Once again, thank you to all the team at Énergie Cardio, and you can be sure I’m going to continue working out to reach my personal goal (to lose another 18 pounds) and hanging out with people as wonderful as you.

Before training at Énergie Cardio, I got no exercise and I wasn’t motivated to do any either. Because my weight had got up to 196 pounds, as soon as I made any physical effort, I was out of breath. With my asthma on top of that, there was nothing to get me going.

But in early 2003, I signed up at Énergie Cardio. I wanted to get myself together to improve my health, and I believed this gym would work for me. I certainly don’t regret having dared to come. I immediately felt welcome and when I needed the help of a trainer, I never felt that I was being a bother. I want to take this opportunity to thank Mélanie Blanchard, the head trainer, for all the support and encouragement she gives me.

Thanks to my training and cardio workouts, like cardio tae-box and aerobics, cardio boot camp, step and yoga, I have lots more endurance and now it’s fun to work out. I feel much better and now weigh 140 pounds. I believe I gave myself a wonderful gift by coming to Énergie Cardio. I love working out in the great atmosphere here. I’m also taking a course in Taekwondo, and I’m surprised that I’ve still got any breath left by the end of the class!

Thank you Énergie Cardio, and keep up the good work Mélanie!

For several years, my life was burdened with fatigue, stress and extra pounds. I needed a radical change in my habits, but nothing was easy and I certainly needed help to reach my goals. The support, motivation, professionalism and discipline of the trainers at Énergie Cardio provided the energy and willpower necessary to lose more than 60 pounds! A balanced and effective diet, three strength and cardio training sessions per week, plus a big dose of moral support let me succeed. Now I’ve regained my energy and athletic abilities, lowered my stress levels and reached my Healthy Weight. And, to my great surprise, I’ve even started to enjoy working out!

For several years, I followed various diets and programs. I would lose weight, but after a while it would all come back. I was really discouraged. I was finally diagnosed as having a problem with my thyroid gland, which was then treated with medication. My doctor even advised me that I couldn’t lose more than 10 pounds. I was so discouraged, my legs hurt and was more and more tired.

Finally, I made up my mind to go and sign up at Énergie Cardio. They reassured me, explaining that by working out and following a balanced diet I would get to my desired weight and would feel much better. Ricky was designated as my personal trainer and for eight weeks he encouraged, motivated and congratulated me. My confidence started coming back, and the pain in my legs and the fatigue were gone. I was more and more encouraged and motivated.

After eight weeks I had lost 24 pounds and now, after eight months, I’ve lost 40 pounds. I have lots more energy.

I owe all that to Ricky and Énergie Cardio. What a great team you all make! There’s always a friendly hello when we walk in and “Have a good day” when we go.

Thank you for everything!

With the PEP personal training program at Énergie Cardio, I gave myself the gift of self-esteem.

Like dozens of times before, I signed up at a fitness centre. But this time, I chose Énergie Cardio for the package deals they offer.

At my first information visit, they suggested a personal training program that would meet my goals, which were to regain some vitality, shape up and lose about 10 pounds.

When I returned to sign up, I asked for more details on this private program and this time I listened more closely. Now I understood how it was structured, and I decided to join the program.

I admit that the initial torture quickly changed into a set of goals to achieve and into a lifestyle, thanks to the effectiveness, patience and support of Brian, my personal trainer. I would say that he personally, in addition to the welcome I received from the staff at the centre, were major factors contributing to my determination.

It may be slow getting started because the body must adapt to this new way of life. It’s a challenge on many levels: exercise, eating, punctuality, perseverance. By the second week, I could already start to see results, and it was incredible to see how quickly the program develops.

By the fourth week or so of the program, I already knew I would reach my objectives, and that following the program, combined with the constant support of Brian, “Mr. Keep Smiling,” would let me place the bar even higher.

Never, at any other fitness centre, had I been so persevering in my efforts, and I finally obtained a result that I would have never even hoped to achieve. For more than 15 years, I didn’t dare walk on a beach without a T-shirt or sweater, but now I could do it, with my head high, even getting some compliments for looking in such good shape.

I gave myself the gift of self-esteem, and the price was small compared to the physical and mental joy it brings me.

Many thanks to all the team at Énergie Cardio, and especially to Brian.

I’m happy to share with you my experience with the group classes at Énergie Cardio. I’m the mother of four young children, I work full time, and I go to school as well. There is very little time leftover for me or to take care of myself. For the past two years, I’ve been working out three to five times a week with Nadine’s Step classes. It’s a time when I think about nothing else and empty my mind of everything I have to do. Nadine is really important for making these moments fun and stimulating for me. Through her energy, creativity, good humour, friendliness and musical tastes, she motivates me to push myself and never give up. I enjoy working out in a group, I like making new contacts and the group dynamic stimulates me. Since I have been exercising regularly, I feel better, I sleep better and I’m less stressed. I like how my body is changing and I’m proud about me and my commitment to be healthy. Having an instructor like Nadine gives me a wonderful model for health and fitness.

Thank you Nadine and Énergie Cardio, because you are letting me express my physical potential and are contributing, through the accessible scheduling and encouragement, to my physical and mental wellbeing.

It all began in Fall of 2002, shortly after my return from a vacation in California. Looking over photos I had taken, I noticed the pasty complexion, bad posture my gut. I had to face it: the camera doesn't lie. It was time to do something. But what?

I had been thinking of joining a gym for some time, but with the ones I had joined before, I stopped going because I either lost interest, no longer felt motivated, of felt there was no guidance. This time, it was going to be different - I had to find a gym that would not only shape me up, but also put me on the path to a healthier lifestyle.

While researching, I came upon Energie Cardio and noticed that a new location was opening that was conveniently located between my home and my workplace. I fired off an e-mail and within 24 hours had received a call back to set up an appointment. Well, to shorten the story, I walked out signed up not for one, but for three programs - PEP, Kilo Cardio and EquiliForme. Now this is something not everyone is going to do. Everybody has a different goal, a different objective. The staff asks you some questions, and from your responses the will set up or recommend the program(s) you need to obtain your goal.

In my situation, I wanted to lose weight, tone my body, and correct my posture. Having a personal trainer when I started my program helped keep me motivated and focused (plus she wasn't afraid to push me harder). Kilo Cardio taught me how to eat smaller portions and healthier foods. EquiliForme not only corrected my posture, but also toned and strengthened those muscles I would need to do a good workout. Did I get results? After eights weeks I had lost at least 8 kilos, my back was straight, my running time on the treadmill was increasing, my energy level was up, and, best of all, my stress level was way down. I was so impressed with the results that at the end I signed up for a yearly membership.

Here I am two years later, still at it three times a week, and treating myself to a personal trainer for my anniversary. I've done lots of modifications, experienced lots of programs and exercises, and have met many interesting people (both clientele and staff) from all walks of life. Not only is there a terrific view, but also a great, friendly staff ready to give you a helping hand, a word of encouragement, or a smile.

So whatever program or membership you take, good luck, have fun, and in the words of one of my trainers, don't forget to breathe.

Heart attack, angina (two or three attacks per month), emphysema, diabetes... I had poor eating habits, I was a heavy smoker, I was 50 pounds overweight, I never exercised, I took nine pills a day just to survive...

My doctor told me the same thing over and over again, but it had no effect. However, one day, he found the magic words: “You can live for a long time, but how do you want to live?” As I listened to him, I thought about my diabetic father-in-law who had had one of his legs amputated. The magic words that changed my attitude were “quality of life”. I stopped smoking, I made major changes to what I ate, and, based on my doctor’s recommendation, I began exercising. He explained that through exercise, I would develop something in my muscles that would do what my pancreas was refusing to do… and it worked!

I began exercising in November 2001. Nothing complicated—just a 45-minute walk outside every day. However, I quickly discovered that it was very cold outside! So I joined Énergie Cardio in December 2001 and I have been exercising seven days a week ever since. At first, I walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes at 3 miles/hr and rode the stationary bike for ten minutes. Since November 2004, I have been able to run for 42 minutes at 7 miles/hr and ride the bike for 20 minutes at a resistance of five, in addition to five minutes of weightlifting. My current health report looks something like this:
• My emphysema is stable;
• My sugar level (5) is perfectly controlled without medication;
• I’ve lost 56 pounds;
• I no longer smoke;
• I have gone from nine to two and a half pills per day;
• My breathing is a lot better, I don’t get out of breath as easily and my endurance is much better.

Why I continue:
• Expertise;
• Smiles;
• The kindness of the trainers;
• Their ongoing encouragement and support, which motivate me to no end;
• And one more good reason: the results I’ve achieved!
I’d like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU!

Oh! I almost forgot to tell you that I’m 65 years old! I probably think about my age less now because I feel so much more in shape...

Châteauguay

Hello to all,
This testimonial letter is in appreciation and recognition of the extraordinary team at Montreal's Nouveau Rosemont Énergie Cardio centre. As soon as you enter, there is a warm feeling of anticipation-like you're going to be having a good time with friends. It starts with director Roxanne Noiseux, a "people person" who is professional and has a ready smile-you are immediately accepted without judgment. To be greeted by name each time you enter really makes you feel special.

Head trainer Pasquale Canzano will get you headed in the right direction. He is a master of all that has anything to do with physical fitness and-with the help of a few jokes, plenty of smiles, and the occasional song-he manages to create an atmosphere that is both relaxing and energizing at the same time. When Éric Robidoux set up my first training programs, I immediately knew I'd found my place at last.

I've saved my Kilo Cardio personal trainer, Danny Ugaldez, for last. Thanks to his coaching and encouragement, I lost 27 pounds in 8 weeks. He has confidence in me and it shows; it makes all the difference between success and failure. Other gyms I joined had pulled the wool over my eyes with their promises of support and teamwork. However, once I paid my membership fees, I was left high and dry. I made no progress, and even began to question the benefits of physical fitness. With Danny, all that changed. His program is so good that I continue to make steady progress.

Although he is always kind, he is also demanding-and I like it. Success means always going a little bit further each time.

If it happens that I don't feel like training one morning, I need only remind myself that there are people who believe in me, appreciate me, and are waiting for me.

I love the friendly atmosphere at Énergie Cardio.

Thank you, Énergie Cardio team.
Thank you to the gang on Sherbrooke Street. And to Danny: thank you, my friend.

Sincerely,
André Newby

I started exercising on the recommendation of my doctor. I had knee problems because of my rheumatoid arthritis and my doctor advised me to lose weight. As a result, I decided to start exercising. Like a lot of young people, my goal was to look like Mr. Universe. I went to a lot of different gyms and one day I stopped by at Énergie Cardio to get some information. What I liked about Énergie Cardio was their concept and how down-to-earth the people were.

When I started, I weighed 194 pounds; now I weigh 160 pounds. I exercise about four or five times a week and my workouts vary between lifting weights and cardiovascular exercise. I also eat better now. I like my new body a lot, my ankle doesn't hurt any longer and my arthritis is under control.

Before I started taking classes with Chantal, I followed the Kilo Cardio program which helped me lose some extra weight. At the time, I was still smoking… Once my session ended and I had gotten a head start on losing some additional pounds, I decided to quit smoking. Then my worst fears came true: I gained the weight back since I no longer had nicotine to curb my appetite…

In short, I won't make excuses for the extra pounds since we are here to talk about the benefits of the group classes, which were, thankfully, what helped me get back on target.

I chose classes that gave me a good cardiovascular workout because that's what I needed to lose weight. What's more, I took a class that was generally given at the end of the day; even if I was tired after my workday, only sickness could keep me away-that's how much I enjoyed the class. It was sort of an outlet for me; a mix of emotional release and physical need (a bit like a drug) and an exploration of body art. Chantal Hanna, my instructor, is also someone who plays a role in my well-being, with her great personality, sense of humour and especially her knowledge of human anatomy. Her passion rubs off on us and I'm certain I am not the only one who feels this way.

Overall, I'm in good shape, but I don't think I had ever gone to a gym so often than since I have been taking classes with Chantal at the Lachine Énergie Cardio centre!

Thank you!

When I started the Kilo Cardio program, I was doing it for others, and not myself. When I lost one pound I thought it wasn’t enough. That’s when my trainer explained to me that it was healthier for me and less dangerous to lose one pound than to lose four! It was at that moment that I started training for myself! Sometimes I would get down on myself, because I thought I would never make it, but the trainers always encouraged me to push a little harder. My success is due to my will and hard work for sure, but it is also because of my trainer who was always there for me, congratulating me. He made me aware of all my accomplishments every step of the way. I recommend Kilo Cardio to all teenagers who want to achieve their healthy body weight! Before you say that it won’t work, it’s important to try and have faith in yourself!

As I was heading into my 47th year, my doctor pointed out that most of my muscles were beginning to fall away from my skeletal structure, and I was in danger of developing permanent damage to my posture and muscle control. Being 80 lb overweight was also an invitation for diabetes. She also pointed out that I was borderline menopausal and along with that, warned me that there would be additional weight gain because of inevitable body changes. As an emotional eater, I have been overweight since I was 10 years old.

I joined Énergie Cardio on Crescent and Ste-Catherine in the Montreal downtown area on February 16, 2004. I was the same age I am now, 47 years old. I weighed 180 lb with a body fat level of 40%. I had no desire or belief that I could ever change from who I was at 180 lb I had lost 20 lb prior to joining Énergie Cardio, but it took me an entire year to lose it. I had given up on my appearance and size, and I had thoroughly accepted this fate for the rest of life. I felt completely beaten in spirit about my health and appearance. A sense of well being started immediately as Alyssa Goddard, the Assistant Manager, greeted me warmly at the front desk. With caring and concern, she really listened to my needs, fears…even my objections. She outlined all the benefits private training could offer and also suggested that I try their Kilo Cardio program.

With complete resignation, I signed up for private training. My private trainer was Jean-François Paradis, who single-handedly helped me transform my mind about my self-image, which led to a complete transformation of my body from an unhealthy state to being ultra-fit. But most of all, it was Jean-François' diligence and wonderful dedication that stood out the most. He had this shrewd ability to have a vision of me as an athlete while I struggled and worked hard, until I was able to see and be this vision for myself. It has been an arduous journey, and in the beginning, I did not have any belief that I would reach this goal, but Jean-François did. He worked closely with me at every session and was focused on his task. He completely encouraged me every step of the way. He was always smiling, even when I complained. He had inexhaustible patience in answering all my questions while explaining all the benefits each exercise had for me.

He is both a remarkable trainer and person. He just kept training me as if I was a professional athlete. This was highest compliment anyone has even bestowed on me. I felt honoured. Thank you, Jean-François!

I stayed in private training with Jean-François for 4 months and I also followed their Kilo Cardio food program, which simply taught me basic nutrition and portion control. It was a challenge to deal with all the emotional issues that surfaced, but it has been 9 months now, and I have reached my goal weight of 123 lb! I lost 57 lb! I went from 40% body fat to a normal 23% body fat – a total loss of 17% of body fat.

I lost 10 inches from my waist, 7 inches from my chest, 10 inches from my thighs, 13 inches from my hips…even 3 inches from my neck. I started out a size 16 and went down to size 4 in pants! Wow! I cannot express how happy and fit I feel, how good I look, and how grateful I am. Additional applause goes to the head trainer, Jean Hebert, who continues to encourage me on a daily basis and who seems to magically appear just when I need him to push me forward in my workouts, intuitively knowing when I need it the most. Also to Cathy Chaput, Genevieve Labbé, and all the administrative staff who have kept me feeling cared for, which gives me a solid sense of belonging.

The best part is that I am now inspired to become a personal trainer to return the favour by also helping men and woman who are my age.

To celebrate this and my first year anniversary success with Énergie Cardio, in February 2005, I will take another private training session with the head trainer, Jean Hébert. I am very excited to discover what ultimate health and fit level I will attain and am privileged to learn from Jean’s personal training style and expertise.

Thank you to all who have helped me transform at Energie Cardio!!!

We are happy, my husband and I, to share our experience with the Énergie Cardio team. In the fall of 2004, my husband decided to get in shape and he chose to do it with the help of personal trainer, Natasha Gagné.

At the end of the first month, he was so enthusiastic I joined him even though I had never exercised before, and had many fears, given that I was 56 years old. I also chose a program with a personal trainer, Natasha. She knew to adapt to me, to listen and give me confidence with great kindness and love for her profession.

We both finished our 8-week programs with excellent results and we decided to continue. The staff is always there to answer questions and the owners of the Jonquière centre are very welcoming. A big thank you to everyone, with special thanks to Caroline who replaced Natasha with great skill.

Number of cigarettes smoked/day: 15 to 20

Given my age (almost 40 years old), I felt it was time to try something new, i.e. to quit smoking and to get in shape. I followed the Quit Smoking Program and I am proud to say that I managed to quit smoking easily. I replaced cigarettes with exercise. I am proud of myself and so are my kids - they told me that I had given them a beautiful gift by quitting smoking. What can I say about my trainer, Pat... thank you for your support and quality training.
Thank you!

The warm welcome I received from Énergie Cardio was an inspiration from the start – the staff was courteous and professional. Taking my goals into account, they suggested the Kilo Cardio program to get me back into shape while losing the desired amount of weight. The combination of exercise and die (specially designed by Énergie Cardio centres) made me lose more than 23 lbs. in eight weeks of training.

Having surpassed my goal, it confirmed for me that Énergie Cardio, their trainers, and equipment (both electronic and traditional) ensure and guarantee a healthier body!

The program designed by my trainer helped me reach my goal – and then some! Thank you to Énergie Cardio and Simon Garneau, my trainer!

At age 60, I found myself in poor health.
As a diabetic, with heart problems, and hypertensive, my doctor told me repeatedly to get some exercise. It took me three years before I decided to do something about it and find a suitable program.

In June 2003, I received a flyer on my doorstep that excited me: "Énergie Cardio Select for Women". After visiting the new centre in Ste-Rose, Laval, I decided to join a private training program along with my daughter, Danielle. After an initial eight-week program with encouraging results, I decided to continue with a second session with a personal trainer.

Today, at the end of 12 weeks, my health status has returned to normal, including my blood pressure.

Thanks to my trainers' (Marie-Hélène, C. Goulet and Mélanie Roussel) encouragement and skill, I overcame my limitations with ease. I feel fit, motivated, and energetic. Nothing stands in the way of my training appointments! I now have the will and determination to persevere at getting into shape, as well as the desire to maintain my fitness gains over the long-term.

I thank director Nicole Therrien's entire team. Three times a week, I have the pleasure of encountering smiling, dynamic, and happy people in a warm and friendly place.

I'd like to say a big thank you to Énergie Cardio for this fabulous program – I loved it! This rewarding four-month experience allowed me to eat healthily without feeling deprived.

I also experienced a new love for exercise thanks to Nadia, my incredible trainer. Her sense of humour, kindness, and encouragement guided me through a wonderful four months.

Best of all, I shed all my excess pounds and had fun doing it! Today, I can honestly say that I feel beautiful and am totally comfortable with myself. I'm proud that I was able to reach my fitness goals.

Again, a huge thank you!

For several years, my son has trained with Energie Cardio. Because I hadn’t been doing anything since my accident, he asked me one day to come with him so that I could see for myself how it worked.

I received a very warm welcome. The staff at Energie Cardio gave me a tour and explained how to use all the machines so that I could train in spite of my accident. They were very friendly, and I fell in love with Energie Cardio right away. Needless to say, I signed up on the spot.

I started back in November 2003. Today, I work out three times a week with a trainer and I am very satisfied. I’m also in great shape and my morale is better than ever. This is why I am doing private training for my third time.

The personnel are extremely welcoming and very nice; it’s so pleasing to be greeted with a smile. It even makes the workout seem easier! My trainer is extraordinary, and gives me great exercises to do while being very attentive to my injured leg.

There are many things that pop up in life that can cause us to gain a lot of weight. In my case, serious pulmonary problems combined with my rather lazy nature were what caused me to become more and more sedentary over time. So there I was, 33 years old and 50 pounds overweight. Although my asthma was under control, it was hard to get motivated. Those around us encourage us from time to time, but only I could make the final decision.

I didn’t believe in just dieting, and I had decided to make changes in many areas of my life. So I went to Énergie Cardio to get some information. The welcome I received was incredible. They took the time to thoroughly explain the programs available, the kind of results I could expect, the costs and all sorts of other things. Filled with confidence, I eagerly embarked on this new adventure.

A personal trainer developed a program that met my needs. I was supervised to ensure I was doing the exercises right, and was given lots of encouragement and motivation. My trainer also asked about my health, my eating habits and even suggested some alternative foods when needed.

I would like to thank all the employees for being so helpful, friendly and patient—even with my endless questions. The experience was wonderful. The trainers’ professionalism kept me motivated right to the very end. I have now lost 30 pounds and am still working out on a regular basis.

Thank you for everything!

I really enjoyed the program. My personal trainer was very kind and competent. She gave me lots of information about the exercises, cardio training and food program. I followed her wise advice to the letter and the results made both of us very proud! I lost 15 pounds in two months. The recipe book is very well done and is based on the Canada Food Guide, which ensured I got all the nutrients I needed to stay healthy! It is perfect for someone like me who lives alone because the recipes generally yield one or two servings. The menu is extremely varied and the meals are delicious… just ask my dinner guests!

I continued to work out during the following three months and still kept losing weight (a total of 48 pounds), while respecting the food program and keeping up the same level of intensity in my workouts. The program is extremely effective: my blood sugar and cholesterol levels are now back to normal!

When it comes to starting a workout program, I highly recommend the Kilo Cardio program; I enjoyed it immensely. Thank you to my trainer, Govannia. I can’t wait to hear about your baby. I would also like to thank the entire staff for their kindness. Thank you so much!

My training varies from week to week, depending on my schedule. I always start with a 10-minute warm-up on the stationary bike. It may not seem like a lot, but the bulk of my cardiovascular training is done on the football field, either during or after practice. Of course, when I’m not playing football or when I’m in Quebec, I’ll work out at the Énergie Cardio centre in Granby.

After my warm-up, I tackle my weight training program. It’s divided into a three-day routine. On day 1, I concentrate on my legs and shoulders. On day 2, I work my chest and back. And on day 3, I focus on my biceps and triceps. As for my abdominals, I’ll work on those either on the field or at the centre. If my schedule doesn’t allow me to get in three days of weight training, I’ll combine all three days into one workout and up my cardio.

The number of repetitions and sets I do will vary based on whether my goal is to bulk up or carve muscle, or to increase my endurance. My favourite routine is to do four sets of 8 to 10 reps while alternating between two exercises (e.g. 4 x 10 on the bench press (chest) and 4 x 10 on the lat pulldown (back), followed by a 45- to 90-second rest period).

What motivates me more than anything else? Knowing that I am outdoing myself during games, having the chance to prolong my career for as long as possible (for two or three more years), and being able to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

People often ask me what type of workout I do. My training season generally begins on December 1. After a full month of mental rest, I resume my workouts with distance training ranging from two and four hours in length. I gradually add interval exercises to my workout twice a week until the competition season begins at the end of February. During the racing season, I am very busy and keep my training to a minimum. When I have specific goals for the season, such as the Olympic Games, I go back home so that I can be more closely supervised by my trainer, Éric Van den Eynde.

We work on sprinting, power and endurance on the “computrainer”, a machine that provides reference data. As the competition approaches, I rest but continue to keep my feet on the pedals with short but intense efforts to stay sharp. What motivates me to compete at such a high level is the opportunity to push myself to new limits. I love discovering just how far I can push my mind and body, while remaining healthy and happy. I have always loved competing. For me it’s a source of pleasure!

I’m doing my workouts with one of the personal trainers on my team. Even though I’m in the centre almost every day, it’s still hard for me to be disciplined and work out on a regular basis. A personal trainer is really the miracle solution for me. Workout after workout, I feel better and get in better contact with my body.

Having an appointment with my trainer forces me to put aside the day’s hustle and bustle and hit the workout room. I do an hour of muscle strengthening exercises with my trainer, followed by 30 minutes of cardiovascular interval training. Not only is it motivating to see the changes occurring in my body so quickly, but also seeing my energy and self-esteem levels soar, where life’s hectic rhythm would otherwise deplete them. What’s more, as the mother of a young boy, I’m thrilled to have enough energy to play with him… even after a long day at work.

Now that I am no longer competing, I focus my workouts more on cardiovascular training. I love doing routines that alternate between the various cardio machines, such as the stationary bike, ski machine, treadmill, rowing machine, etc., in addition to running and doing lots of walking (I walk about one hour each day). Of course, I still do a bit of weight training to maintain my muscle tone. This includes about 12 to 20 exercises for my various muscle groups.

What motivates me is staying in shape. One of the most depressing things about retiring from competition is no longer feeling like you’re in top shape. I found it extremely frustrating to lose my breath after walking up the stairs or getting tired from doing household chores. So to keep my ego intact, I keep on training! Seriously, once working out becomes a part of your regular daily life, it’s hard to go without it. For me, being active is a necessity!

As an actor, my appearance is very important. But more importantly, I work out for my own well-being and for the energy it gives me. I do a lot of cardiovascular exercise—primarily the rowing machine and the stationary bike. To stay motivated, I do my own private contests with my heart rate monitor. I try to beat my own times! It helps me push my limits while having fun.
