25-hour Cardio Challenge

logo-defi-25-fond-blanc.gif

As you already know, Énergie Cardio enthusiastically celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2010.  For this exceptional occasion, on May 29 and 30, 2010, every Énergie Cardio centre will host the 25-Hour Cardio Challenge (Défi Cardio 25 heures), a special fund-raising event whose entire proceeds will be donated to the Josée Lavigueur Fund/Opération Enfant Soleil as part of the 23rd Téléthon Opération Enfant Soleil, which will take place next June 5 and 6.

The vast Énergie Cardio team has been giving its all since 1999 in supporting Opération Enfant Soleil. Our mission has always consisted in improving people's health, and in particular, we hold children's health especially dear to our hearts.

In an effort to deepen our support for this nobly worthy cause, and more importantly target disease prevention, Énergie Cardio, in co-operation with Opération Enfant Soleil, set up the Josée Lavigueur Fund in 2006; its mission is to prevent disease in children through physical activity. The funds raised by Énergie Cardio and donated to Opération Enfant Soleil will be dedicated to carrying out this mission.

We invite you to donate toward children's health via the deficardio25heures.com Web site.  You may attribute your donation to your Énergie Cardio centre, or a particular team or participant.

Together, we can help make a difference!

To support a team or participant and make a donation, visit the deficardio25heures.com Web site.

Do you wish to participate in the 25-Hour Cardio Challenge?

Énergie Cardio invites its members and the public at large to take part in the 25-Hour Cardio Challenge by forming teams and, based on a relay system, perform 25 consecutive hours of cardiovascular exercise on treadmills and stationary bicycles from Saturday, May 29 at noon to Sunday, May 30 at 1 p.m.  You can participate in the inaugural edition of this very special event by putting together a 5-person team or being part of a single team for all.

To participate, each team has to raise at least $2,500. This per-team objective may seem lofty at first sight, but you will quickly realize that this amount is raised more easily than people may think, especially since Opération Enfant Soleil supports a cause very close to Quebecers' souls.  As a participant, you will have access to numerous tools that facilitate canvassing and maximize your chances of success.

Do you have what it takes to take up that challenge?

To form or join a team, contact your Énergie Cardio centre today to pre-register your team and secure your spot.

On behalf of all children, we wholeheartedly thank you!

Énergie Cardio: A winning concept for 25 years!

In 1985, a Saint-Jérôme businessman had a vision that gave rise to a concept involving a whole new type of physical conditioning centre. Today, 25 years later, this concept is the hallmark of the Énergie Cardio banner, Québec’s largest network of physical training centres, with more than 70 locations.

Proud of the company’s history, its development and the market position it has carved out for itself over the years, management and staff will be celebrating Énergie Cardio’s 25th anniversary over the next 12 months by staging various events to which customers and members will be invited.

Check the forthcoming Énergie Cardio monthly newsletters and don’t miss out on any of the celebrations!

A partnership that will change the world!

Earlier this year, Alain Beaudry, president of Énergie Cardio, Quebec’s largest network of fitness centres with over 70 locations, and David Patchell-Evans, founder and CEO of GoodLife Fitness, the Canadian fitness industry leader with over 190 centres, announced the creation of a partnership with respect to their operations in the province of Quebec.
As a result of this partnership, Énergie Cardio welcomes Quebec’s 6 GoodLife centres under its banner. Quebec clients, who have grown familiar with the Énergie Cardio concept after close to 25 years, will find in each of these 6 centres the same elements that have contributed to the network’s notoriety: friendly and capable staff, a line of top quality programs and services, as well as a wide variety of group classes. Furthermore, Énergie Cardio members will now have access* to the entire network of GoodLife/Énergie Cardio centres, including over 285 centres across Canada, to pursue their training while travelling.

We extend a warm welcome to the staff and members of the 6 new Énergie Cardio centres!

Grants by the Josée Lavigueur Fund

Énergie Cardio is especially proud to tell you about the grants presented by the Josée Lavigueur Fund of Opération Enfant Soleil. Thanks to the generosity of employees and Énergie Cardio members, six organizations will be able to promote regular physical activity and a healthy lifestyle to children in their regions.

Montérégie

Jeunes en santé a non-profit organization aimed at the optimal development of young people: creating awareness of the importance of acquiring good lifestyle habits through regular physical activity by adopting a healthy diet and engaging in safe behaviour, leading to higher self-esteem, received $ 6,000. With this donation, the "health squad" will be able to give more than 2,000 pedometers to youngsters of the Saint-Hyacinthe School Board, to promote regular physical activity by encouraging them to walk more than 10,000 steps a day.

Montréal - North Shore

Le Regroupement en toxicomanie PRISME received $ 8,250 for the Gymsat project. This project, whose aim is to promote health and wellbeing in young people through physical activity by developing their social skills in coping with drug addiction and gambling, is offered in primary schools of the Two-Mountains RCM.

Montréal

La Maison des Enfants de l'Île-de-Montréal received $ 2,500 to purchase equipment for practicing certain sports indoors, such as, hockey, baseball and soccer.

The Kinanthropology Department of the University of Québec in Montréal received $ 6,140 for an experimental yoga program for children aged 5 to 6, to stimulate their attention ability from preschool age on.

Québec

The Community Centre of Beauport received $ 11,200 for the Sports Ground project for children from low-income families. The objective of this supervised, free project is to improve accessibility, educate family members and kindle new interests, but above all to guide them towards a healthy lifestyle.

Motivaction Jeunesse, which fights sedentarity and delinquency among young people from disadvantaged homes in Quebec, received $ 5,915. This grant will allow the realization of the Vélomania project, an educational program to fight a sedentary lifestyle through bicycling for children aged 10 to 12 in primary schools in Limoilou, Basse-Ville and Vanier.

Énergie Cardio takes this opportunity to invite everyone to be generous during the 20th Opération Enfant Soleil Telethon to be held for the first time live from the Capitole du Québec and broadcast by the TVA Network next June 2nd and 3rd. During this event, representatives of 'Énergie Cardio will present the total donations received through fund raising in the 2006/2007 campaign.

CPR and AED certification: our employees are prepared to act when needed

In March 2007, Énergie Cardio announced the introduction of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to its 70 physical fitness centres. This initiative is part of Énergie Cardio’s health program in which its trainers and office staff must hold CPR and AED certification recognized by the Heart Foundation.

Énergie Cardio’s efforts with regard to providing a safe environment for its members and employees truly paid off recently when two unfortunate incidents occurred at two of its centres.

On Friday, March 21, a client at the Châteauguay centre suffered a heart problem and fell to the ground while running on a moving carpet. Head trainer Jonathan Lévesque, assisted by a nurse who is a member at the centre, came to his rescue. Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was performed and the automated external defibrillator (AED) was used. The ambulance technicians who took over a few minutes later stated that the use of Énergie Cardio’s defibrillator had made the difference.

Four days later, on Tuesday, March 25, a similar incident occurred at the Lévis centre. A client suffered a heart attack and collapsed on the badminton court. Director Christian Breton, trainer Sylvain Côté and head trainer Nadia Dion immediately began resuscitation efforts and then used the defibrillator on site. A firefighter from the city of Lévis assisted them. The physician who later attended the victim stated categorically that if not for the defibrillator, it would have been an altogether different story.

Énergie Cardio is delighted to announce that both persons are recovering. A daughter of one of the victims sent this testimonial message:

On March 21, the heart in Énergie Cardio’s logo took on special meaning for our family. My father, a member of Énergie Cardio Châteauguay, was training as usual on one of the apparatuses when he suffered a heart attack. There were no warning signs – my father just suddenly collapsed. He had no pulse.

Speedy action by head trainer Jonathan Lévesque, Lucie Gougeon, an Énergie Cardio member and nurse, and another member whose name we do not know saved my father’s life.

The defibrillator that is part of the centre’s equipment also contributed to saving his life.

He, his wife, his two daughters and his three grandchildren thank you with from the bottom of our hearts!!!

He is now doing much better. Being in good physical shape has helped him recover quickly and he’s eager to get back to training.
